✨💫🤯🛰️The Sun vs Jupiter — A Cosmic Face-Off! The Sun and Jupiter dominate our solar system, but they exist on completely different scales. The Sun, a G-type main-sequence star, holds about 99.86% of the total mass of the entire solar system. Its mass is an astonishing 1.989 × 10³⁰ kg, making it the ultimate gravitational anchor. At its core, nuclear fusion converts hydrogen into helium, releasing immense energy that sustains life on Earth. Jupiter, on the other hand, is the largest planet, with a mass of 1.898 × 10²⁷ kg—over 300 times the mass of Earth, yet still only about 1/1000th the mass of the Sun. Often called a “failed star,” Jupiter has a composition similar to the Sun, mostly hydrogen and helium. However, it lacks the critical mass (about 80 times its current mass) needed to ignite nuclear fusion and become a true star. Despite this, Jupiter is no weak contender. It has a powerful magnetic field, dozens of moons, and violent storms like the Great Red Spot, a centuries-old hurricane larger than Earth. Its gravity even acts as a cosmic shield, deflecting comets and asteroids that might otherwise threaten the inner planets. In a cosmic showdown, the Sun easily dominates due to its sheer mass and energy output. Yet Jupiter stands as a worthy giant, a reminder of what could have been—a star that almost ignited but remained a planet.🌀🚀📡🌌☀️🌞🌟🌠💥 #astronomy #astrophotography #universe #space #blackhole

In July 1994, a comet slammed into Jupiter — and we watched it happen ☄️🪐 Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 had already been torn into 21 fragments by Jupiter’s gravity, and between July 16–22, 1994, those pieces slammed into the planet one by one. The impacts left dark “bruise” scars in Jupiter’s atmosphere that stayed visible for months. Would you want to see an event like this through a telescope (from a safe distance)? 👀✨ #Jupiter #Comet #NASA #Astronomy #StarWalk

Jupiter getting hit with a giant space rock!☄️ Jupiter has been called the vacuum cleaner of the #solarsystem because its #gravity sucks in #asteroids and #comets, protecting #earth from those objects. In 1994, the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (SL9) impacted Jupiter, which had captured the comet shortly before (and broken apart by its gravity). The event became a media circus as it was the first direct observation of an #extraterrestrial #collision of Solar System objects. The #impact was so powerful that it left scars that endured for months and were more discernible than Jupiter’s #greatredspot Since then, #astronomers have observed multiple objects impacting #jupiter and it is expected that such impacts happen all the time (though unobserved). On September 13th, 2021, another impact was observed by multiple astronomers across the world. Based on the images and video provided by observers, the object’s diameter is estimated at 20 meters (ft). Similar to what happened with SL-9, this object is believed to be the #remnant of a larger comet or #asteroid that was captured by Jupiter’s gravity that broke up shortly before the #impact took place. 🗿Jupiter’s immense gravity—over 300 times more powerful than Earth’s—acts as a cosmic gatekeeper, deflecting or capturing many comets and asteroids before they reach the inner Solar System. Positioned just beyond the asteroid belt, it shapes orbital paths via gravitational resonances (like the Kirkwood gaps), steering dangerous objects away from Earth. The 1994 Shoemaker–Levy 9 impact dramatically showcased this effect, as Jupiter absorbed fragments that might otherwise have threatened us . At a rate possibly thousands of times higher than Earth’s impact rate, Jupiter regularly intercepts cosmic debris . However, its influence is nuanced—some gravitational interactions can redirect objects inward, creating a complex interplay of protection and risk . Overall, Jupiter’s presence has significantly reduced the frequency of catastrophic impacts, helping create the stable environment needed for life to flourish on Earth. #cosmicguardian #jupiter #CosmicGuardian #JupiterShield #KeplerDefense #AsteroidProtection #SolarSystemSafety #SpaceScience #PlanetaryShielding #ɪɴsᴛᴀɢᴏᴏᴅ #ɪɴsᴛᴀʀᴇᴇʟs

Jupiter. 🗿. Jupiter, the Solar System’s heavyweight—over 300 × Earth’s mass—acts as a cosmic shield by using its immense gravity to deflect, capture, or destroy countless asteroids and comets that might otherwise threaten Earth. It dominates and stabilizes the asteroid belt via orbital resonances, preventing many space rocks from drifting inward, and intercepts long-period comets from the Oort Cloud, often flinging them away or drawing them into itself—as dramatically evidenced by comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 in 1994. While Jupiter can sometimes act like a “cosmic pinball,” nudging objects toward the inner Solar System, its overall influence lowers Earth's bombardment rate and has played a crucial role in maintaining the stable, life-friendly conditions we enjoy today. Overall, its presence has significantly reduced the long-term bombardment rate, contributing to the stability and habitability of Earth and other inner planets. The complexity of its role demonstrates that Jupiter isn’t a simple shield—but rather a powerful force that has shaped life-friendly conditions in our solar system. #CosmicGuardian – emphasizes Jupiter's protective role in the solar system. #jupitershield #ɪɴsᴛᴀʀᴇᴇʟs #viral_video #SpaceProtector

How many moons does Jupiter have? 1? 3? 25?! The answer might surprise you: Scientists now think that Jupiter has a total of 95 moons! Most have been named as of 2023, according to NASA. The most famous of Jupiter’s moons are its largest satellites: Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto. Each is thought to have its own unique atmosphere and geographic features. Io is the most volcanic body in the solar system, while Europa is thought to have icy oceans beneath its frozen surface. Ganymede is the size of Mercury – making it the largest moon in the Solar System – and has its own magnetic field. Callisto is heavily cratered and is composed of rock and ice. In this video –  a composite of shots from the Cassini spacecraft from its flyby of Jupiter in January 2001 – we can see Io and Europa. The video is “more pretty than correct,” according to its creator, NASA photographer Kevin M. Gill (@kevinmgill on Twitter), but it’s close to what you might see were you to fly by Jupiter! Which is your favorite of Jupiter’s moons? Let us know in the comments  #CelestialCitizen #CelestialViews Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SSI/CICLOPS/Kevin M. Gill

Apa Sebenarnya Pusaran Merah Itu?
