AGIn the esoteric tradition of the Mystery Schools, the “choosing” of Horus by Atum is not an external judicial decision but a metaphysical recognition of self-realization.
Atum represents the undifferentiated, absolute potential of the universe—the “All-in-One” before it splits into duality.
Horus, conversely, represents the “Divine Son,” or the awakened consciousness that has successfully navigated the material world.
To be “chosen” by Atum means that the initiate (represented by Horus) has refined their vibration to such a degree that they become a perfect vessel for the divine source.
It is a magnetic alignment rather than a kingly decree; the infinite potential of Atum can only flow through a consciousness that has fully actualized its own divinity.
This process requires the initiate to master the “Set” aspect within themselves, which symbolizes the animalistic ego, chaos, and the shadow self.
In the Mysteries, one cannot destroy Set but must instead subdue and integrate him, harnessing that raw, chaotic power to serve higher spiritual will.
When Horus defeats Set, he recovers the “Eye of Soundness” (the Wedjat), which signifies the restoration of spiritual vision and the unification of the brain’s hemispheres.
It is only after this internal alchemy—when the initiate has harmonized their lower nature with their higher intellect—that Atum “chooses” them.
This moment marks the transition from a dormant spiritual potential into a living, breathing god-man capable of wielding the creative power of the cosmos on Earth.
