EDThis is maddening - using stock photo sites to get backlinks.
Take original photos from your phone.
Create images in Canva, Photoshop.
Niche specific images, location photos, data visualizations, infographics, charts.
Anything relevant to your topic.
Upload them to free stock image sites. Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, Flickr Creative Commons. Here’s where it gets crazy. The attribution credit fields link back to your website.
These stock photo platforms have crazy domain authority.
The images get pulled by bloggers, journalists, designers every single day.
Every time someone uses your photo then credits you, that’s a free backlink from their website with zero outreach.
You are scaling backlinks by doing nothing.
Reverse Image Search your photos, use Google or TinEye.
You’ll find dozens of sites using them without proper attribution.
Email these site owners asking for a source credit link.
Or even have an AI do it for you.
Conversion rate on these is insanely high. The site owners know they already took your content. They know they owe you the link.
Zero cost, great anchor text, compounds forever.
The more images you put up, the more links you get.

We tried something like this with our blog images, didn’t expect so many backlinks from just putting them on free sites. Surprising how well it worked.
People complain about there being limited free backlink opportunities. In reality, there are many ways to engineer them.

FLLast week, we kicked off World Photography Day early because who says you have to wait? We hit the Lands End Trail in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area with our friends at @obozfootwear and the #Flickr Community, trading stories and camera tips in the misty coastal fog.
Photographers know the best shots often mean going off the beaten path and that’s where the right hiking shoes make all the difference. The community loved lacing up Oboz footwear for the hike and putting them to the test on those twisty coastal trails.
We came away with moody seascapes, hidden paths, and golden light breaking through the haze. Proof that foggy days can be pure magic!

Stewart Butterfield, a philosophy major who stumbled into building Flickr, sold his company for roughly $25–35 million. Yahoo promised resources, scale, and global reach. Instead, they gutted his creation. They forced Flickr into Yahoo logins, broke the community, ignored feedback, and treated the platform like a database, not a culture. One Yahoo exec even admitted: “We didn’t care about the community.” After years of frustration, Butterfield quit with a legendary resignation letter. He wasn’t retiring — he was regrouping. He built a quirky online game called Glitch, poured three years into it, then watched it die. Hidden inside that failure was something powerful: the team had built an internal chat tool.
