That’s what everyone says. “It’s a hard trade.” “Stop being soft.” “Back in my day we just dealt with it.” But what are the real question we should ask: If the trade is so great… why are so many apprentices leaving? Every year thousands start electrical apprenticeships. A huge percentage never finish. So is the problem that the younger generation is soft? Or is the real problem that the industry still thinks “school of hard knocks” the ol’ knuckle buster = training. Here’s the truth most people don’t want to admit: Hard work isn’t the problem. Many Electricians respect hard work. But confusion, poor communication, bad leadership, no mentorship, and zero direction?
