NOPep Guardiola has condemned conflicts around the world including the genocide in Palestine, war in Ukraine and civil war in Sudan in a heartfelt statement.
He asked how anyone could defend the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by ICE in Minnesota and said humanity is “better than ever in terms of possibilities … but it’s still not right we kill each other - for what?”
The Manchester City manager made the comments at a press conference ahead of the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle.
Guardiola's comments on Sudan will have been noted by his boss Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Manchester City's owner and vice president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In November, Jeremy Corbyn called on the UK government to suspend arms sales to the UAE, given its alleged support for the Rapid Support Forces, who stand accused of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Sudan.
Guardiola has become increasingly outspoken recently. Last week, he missed his usual press conference to make a speech at the Palau Sant Jordi sports arena in Barcelona in support of the Act x Palestine concert.

GHTRENDING HISTORY: The Story of Rwanda: A Genocide Rooted in Colonialism
Rwanda’s tragedy is not just a Rwandan story it’s a colonial crime with consequences that still echo today.
Before European interference, Rwandans lived with flexible identities Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa were socio economic labels, not rigid ethnic lines. But when Belgium took control after WWI, they turned these identities into fixed racial categories. Influenced by colonial racism, they favored Tutsis as “superior,” giving them power over the Hutu majority. In 1933, identity cards were introduced, locking every Rwandan into an ethnic group, dividing a nation that was once united.
Over time, resentment grew. In the late 1950s, Belgium shifted support to the Hutus, who overthrew the Tutsi monarchy. This flip in power led to decades of violence, discrimination, and exile of hundreds of thousands of Tutsis. When the Tutsi-led Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) launched a civil war in the 1990s, tensions exploded.
Then came 1994.
On April 6, the plane of the Hutu president was shot down. Within hours, extremist forces launched a genocide. Over the next 100 days, more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were massacred often by neighbors with machetes.
Belgium, France, the UN they all knew. Yet they watched. Belgium even pulled out its peacekeepers after 10 soldiers were killed, abandoning Rwanda during its darkest hour.
Today, no reparations have been paid. No formal justice from Belgium or France for the role they played in dividing Rwanda or supporting its killers. Rwanda rebuilt itself — but not with help from those who helped destroy it.
This isn’t just about the past. It’s about accountability. Rwanda is one chapter in a larger African story: colonial powers exploited, divided, and destroyed and still walk free.
We remember Rwanda not only to honor the dead but to demand justice for the living.
