“Git is my second big project, created just to maintain the first. I code for myself. Every project I’ve done has been something I needed.”
While you’re briefing half your team on Notion to make a round button, he wrote a distributed version control system that understands merges better than most startups understand briefs. Git wasn’t made to make your life easier. It was made so Linux wouldn’t have to deal with yours.
Content-based snapshots, SHA-1 hashes, branches as movable pointers, offline workflows. All because the guy just wanted peace. And ironically, he built the tool that forces everyone to work together without speaking.
The lesson?
If your code doesn’t solve a real problem, maybe it’s just dressing up slides and feeding some stakeholder’s ego.
