Our guide even had to show us a photo of what the view actually looks like on a clear day😂 But honestly… we still had the best time. The fog only rolled in during some parts of the loop. We also had good visibility, epic views and even sunshine on other days ☀️ February might be unpredictable, but it was 100% worth it. We were a group of 11 strangers from different countries. Only 2 people were self-riding on the Ha Giang Loop and yes, the police are well trained to recognize tourists. We were stopped 3-4 times, both on the way up and back, and they specifically checked the licenses of those who were self-riding. An International Driving Permit (IDP), as per Vietnamese law, is very important if you plan to ride a motorbike here. ✅ You can rent a bike without a valid license, but be prepared to pay a heavy fine around 3 million VND and there’s always a chance you may get stopped multiple times. ⚠️ Make sure to check the official website for full details on how to apply. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments. I’m currently backpacking across Vietnam and sharing useful info along the way 🙂
