A properly executed tuck handstand is one of the most valuable tools for progressing your handstand practice. It trains active shoulder flexion (open and elevated shoulders), ribs in, posterior pelvic tilt and try eventually head in. That’s a big difference from the lazy tuck: not enough shoulder push, planche lean, backbendy spine and anterior pelvic tilt. Done right, your entire trapezius, including the lower traps, works hard. That means strength, not just shape. If balance is still a challenge, simulate it on the wall. The benefits might even be bigger since we take balance out of the equation and you can exaggerate the position. . . . . #tuck #tuckhandstand #tucksoyoudontuck

This drill? A game changer. So I’m sharing it with you (thanks to coach @susanbishopyoga 🥰) It’s quick, effective, and teaches you to stack - taking me from banana-backed kicks to a pretty solid hold - starting with awareness 🤙🏼 👉 Start standing. Squeeze a block between thighs + hands/forearms
👉 Protract shoulders + gaze between thumbs.
👉 Ribs in. Navel back. Tailbone tucks.
👉 Squeeze. Hold. Repeat. Then try it block-free… 
Now kick up into a straight leg handstand and feel the difference! To get a strong and solid handstand we have to engage the shoulders It’s ALL about the shoulders if you ask me ( and some core, and legs too ……😉) We can do many drills for our handstand practice but in the end of the day it’s the time we spend on our hands. When we are upside down we can focus on the push!! All about the push! Try these for the 🤸‍♂️ 1. Sit on the floor with straight legs. Hold the block over your head with straight arms. Push up!!! From there fold forward with straight back and try to reach over your feet When you can do that you also have your handstand-to-L-sit 😉 2. Prepare your arms and shoulders in a strong position, Kick up agains the wall, PUSH UP through your shoulders, straighten the legs and look at your toes. Hold for 5 breaths, and lower smoothly. Repeat 3 times 3. Tuck jump, and push up through your shoulders. I went straight into handstand practice and forgot headstands were a thing. On my first attempt, I was able to do a headstand and I was so shocked but so excited! I’m sure my headstand practice has helped me, but I’m talking this as a HUGE win because headstands feel so much easier than I ever expected them to be. I can’t wait to gain more control, better alignment, and learn cool poses. Next step is to progress to a forearm stand and completely master my handstand as well. This drill is perfect for any handstand practice where you’re trying to get more moments of actual freestanding balance., but can’t quite hit it in the middle of the room consistently. The Single leg tuck at the wall is an excellent handstand exercise for beginner practitioners that are comfortable climbing into the wall to start. Along with the added strength benefits of the walking into the wall, you’ll also get to train a better handstand shape in order to get your body aligned in the set up of this drill. We finally made it to day 30 😭 After 30 days of handstand practice, I can honestly say this journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Some days it was hard to stay motivated, especially when progress felt slow. But looking back, there’s no doubt I’ve improved since day one—even if it hasn’t always been visible from day to day. I’m truly grateful for all the support, kind messages, and encouragement. It’s made a big difference throughout this process 🫶 Did I make it? Yes and no. I can hold a solid 10-15 second handstand now and then, but it still feels more like luck than skill. I’ve also realized that improving my shoulder mobility is key to more control, and I now know what I need to work on moving forward. This challenge has been intense, so I’m looking forward to taking things at a slightly slower pace. I’ll keep working on both flexibility and drills — just not as often 😅 A new challenge starts tomorrow — any guesses what it might be? #30daychallenge #calisthenics #calisthenicsworkout #handstandchallenge #progress #handstand
