“On Feb 2022, I was coming back from my office when 2 people began following me. I was 22. But as I was about to reach home, I thought, ‘It’ll be okay.’
But then, as the bike came closer, 1 of the men came & threw something at me. And instantly, my face began burning; I couldn’t see anything.
But I knew who did it. He was the man I was supposed to marry. 6 months ago, Abbu had arranged my engagement. I was told, ‘Acha ladka hai.’ At 1st, everything seemed fine. He cared for me, by saying, ‘Aram se jana office,’ & ‘Have you reached home?’
But soon, that care turned into, ‘Where are you?’ ‘Who is that man?’ If I missed his call, he would call my family, asking, ‘Where is she?’ But I brushed it off as ‘choti baat.’
Eventually, he’d say, ‘Ask your Abbu for money.’ But Abbu was a tailor– kaha se laate? I told my family & they broke off the engagement. I thought, ‘Ab kuch problem nahi hogi.’ But that was just the beginning.
After that, he started stalking me. Frustrated, I filed an FIR against him. Lagta hai wahi galti kar di. Because the next day, I was lying in the middle of the street with acid burning my face. Somehow, my neighbors took me home. I could hear Maa crying. They rushed me to the hospital. I kept asking, ‘How bad is it?’ Maa said, ‘Kuch nahi hai,’ I knew she was lying.
A week later, I was sent to Chennai, where I underwent 28 surgeries. And after 1.5 years, the doctors finally removed the bandages from my eyes. The 1st person I saw was Maa. But the most difficult part was left—facing myself.
A few days later when I looked at myself in the mirror, I was shivering. But I realized, ‘Ab jo hai, yehi hai.’ So, I learned to live with it.
I started chasing my dreams again. I joined a makeup course. But people ask me, ‘Tumhe chupke rehna nahi chahiye?’ But when he committed such a heinous act in broad daylight, why should I hide?
He is now in jail, serving a life sentence. And I’m learning how to live life again. But the question is, ‘Did I have to?’ A girl’s life was ruined because of a man’s fragile ego. A deeply disturbing incident at the University of South Florida (USF) has led to felony charges against three men accused of disrupting a peaceful Muslim prayer gathering on November 18. According to authorities, the men—Christopher Svochak, Richard Penkoski, and Ricardo Yepez—allegedly shouted slurs, waved bacon, and taunted students as they prayed at the Collins Parking Garage.
Students described the confrontation as intimidating and frightening, with one recalling: “They got in our face, spit on the ground… stuck cameras in our faces while we were praying.”
All three suspects now face felony charges for disturbing a religious assembly with a hate-crime enhancement, as well as misdemeanor disorderly-conduct charges.
USF Police say the suspects have been banned from campus as the investigation continues. AHTwo women accused of spray painting anti-Muslim slogans on a national highway in Uttar Pradesh said Muslims “cannot do anything in this country” and described them as “tenants” in India during an interview with BBC journalist @dilnawazpasha.

NOPolice launch hate crime probe in Nebraska
Police in Nebraska are asking for the public’s help in identifying a potential hate crime suspect, after two LGBTQIA+ flags were desecrated at the same house in Omaha, NE, two months apart.
Home security footage released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office shows an unidentified man pulling a Pride flag off its pole on April 15, and later setting another flag on fire on June 2.
Authorities tell the public that the suspect ‘may have burns on his hands as a result of the fire.’
