A good quality pack with a light frame is essential in hunting out west. We don’t drag our animals out, they need to come out in pieces. Having a good pack on your back ready to go saves time, keeps you safe by not making several trips, and allows you to carry all of the essentials. I also like to always have puffys and a light tarp in my pack at all times. This is less than a pound that guarantees you can sleep safely wherever you need to.

What’s the point of ultralight gear if your pack doesn’t distribute weight well? 🎒🤔 A well-designed, properly fitting pack helps you carry more comfortably and efficiently and that makes a real difference on long days out. Ultra-light hunting packs aren’t just for hunters. 🏹 Some of you have sent me DMs asking about the loading shelf on my K4 pack from @huntbackcountry , it’s a clever, versatile system. It’s very easy to separate the bag from the frame and carry gear between them. I often use that space for my canvas tarp 🏕️ and oils skin merino groundsheet 🐑 especially useful when they’re wet or dirty after a tour, since they stay outside your main pack and away from clean gear like your sleeping bag. I actually used a bedroll for quite a long time and still like the idea but in practice, this works better for me. Bedrolls tend to bounce around and shift the load, especially on uneven terrain. With this setup, everything stays compact, stable, and close to your spine, which makes a huge difference in how the weight feels. The load distribution is excellent 💪 l a 20kg (44 lbs) pack feels like 12kg (26 lbs). That’s the kind of design that really lets you go farther, and enjoy the journey more.
