I’ve attempted several times to record an update in my own words, but I can’t get through it so I’ll just write it out. Ayven has continued to decline in the last week. We weren’t able to initiate TPN for a couple reasons but we did have to stop the tube feed. His body is just shutting down and he was no longer tolerating it. He is getting IV fluids through his port. His NG tube is still in place, he no longer has the strength to pull it out. We still use it for meds. He still opens his eyes and looks around, still watches TV. He can move his left arm and hand a little bit. I believe that he is still fully aware of everything that is going on around him. He still tries to talk sometimes but can’t, and his little face of fear and frustration when he can’t speak is just unbearable. I miss being able to talk to him and it is absolute torture not knowing what he’s feeling. I remind him constantly that he is loved and that there is nothing to be scared of. There is no beauty in this. I’ve watched my child slowly slip away over the last 9 months. Painstakingly lose ability after ability. My child told me he didn’t want to die and I lied to him and promised that he wouldn’t. This is a living hell. An actual nightmare. And I know it only gets worse from here. #ayvensarmy #hellwithouttheflames #dipg #hospice #kentucky

The first symptom was a sprained ankle. We had no idea it would progress further. In fact, we had no idea it was more than an injury. It acted normal. Well, at first. Then things got weird. My foot couldn’t move. It was turned in and pointed down. I walked funny. Then my hand started twitching. My thumb tucked in. We couldn’t figure it out. No one could. But we knew it was neurological. It had to be. Next thing we know my other hand is affected. And then my other foot. Initiating steps got harder. Walking became worse. More difficult. And eventually wasn’t attainable. My legs were too spastic. Crossing over each other. But also weak. My entire body was weak. I couldn’t hold my trunk or head up. I use a wheelchair full time. I’m in respiratory failure, and my colon has shut down. Life looks different. But we make the most of things. #disability #wheelchair #medicallycomplex #neurodegenerative #disabilities
