These are our personal favourite walks on the Isle of Islay, not including beaches as that’s a list of its own 😅 📍American Monument, RSPB Mull of Oa Reserve An easy circular walk for those with kids. Stunning coastal cliff views. Plus a chance to spot highland cows, golden eagles, raven & more! 📍Fairy Hill, aka Cnoc Rhaonastil A short hike, but quite steep in parts. Stunning views across the south of the island. Find wildlife and folklore here 📍Soldier’s Rock A bit of a longer walk with feral goats joining the journey, but worth it for spectral views of the Soldier’s Rock sea stack. Skirt the sea cave and waterfall with seabirds nesting within 📍Beinn Bheigier Islay’s highest peak. A more strenuous walk, but offers the best views of the island you could ask for. Red deer lurk on the hills and wildflowers bloom between the heather 📍Proaig A trail not often trod, but well worth a walk. Visit the abandoned farm, rich with history of the Lords of the Isles. Spot seals, seabirds & even otters as you go. Save this post for your next trip to Islay! Watch out for ticks & adders when you’re out exploring. And be mindful of breeding birds, as well as lambing & calving season ☺️

The worst things about Islay… ✨ Islay is such an underrated island for wildlife, but it is teaming with it! Red deer, grey seals, golden eagles, corncrake, bottlenose dolphins, otters & so much more. You’ll be stopping every five minutes to watch it all! ✨ It’s almost impossible to resist, a swim, snorkel, kayak or paddle in the clear blue waters around Islay. It may be cold, but it’s so refreshing! ✨ With big open skies, Islay is the perfect place to get up early and watch the sunrise. Have a beach to yourself and watch the wildlife wake up around you! ✨ If getting up early isn’t your thing, watch the sunset instead. With uninterrupted sea views to the west, watch the sun dip below the horizon and the sky fill with pastel colours! ✨ There’s no shortage of beautiful beaches on Islay, the issue is picking which ones to visit… ✨ Islay food is underrated! We’re spoiled here with delicious cafes, restaurants, takeaways & food vans with the freshest local meals. ✨ Islay time is all too real! You’ll feel yourself slowing down and adjusting to the rhythm of the island. Enjoy a sauna, massage & hot tub dip at @themachrie to make the most of it. ✨ Whisky galore! Passengers on a boat trip off the coast of Islay stopped to watch a red deer stag wander to the water's edge, before jumping in and swimming to the far shore. Boat captain Harold Hastie said it was a magnificent sight. "We probably got about 40ft away from him. Beautiful sight. It was really lovely to see," he said. A team from Islay Sea Adventures were gathering material for the business when the stag stopped them in their tracks. "Everybody that was on board got great videos and something to treasure because you probably won't see that again," Mr Hastie said. Fully obsessed with @oystershed_islay 🦪✨* This amazing seafood cafe is the PERFECT spot to grab a bite to eat on Islay. Follow the dirt track rode along the estuary of Loch Guinart and you’ll find the lil’ blue shed that serves up some of the best food I had on Islay. The menu is full on comfort, elevated in a casual setting that tries not to be anything but a haven for seafood lovers. Home to Islay Oysters, which sells around 3 million oysters a year, you won’t find fresher seafood. And of course I ended up tagging along with Colin the owner to see the oyster farm up close and personal. AND he let me try one of the oysters straight from the ocean. HOW FREAKING COOL. This was definitely an afternoon I won’t forget. Eating oysters with that view, priceless. A huge thanks to @exploreislayandjura for setting me up with the team. I’ve wanted to visit for ages and I can’t even explain how amazing the experience was. *AD- this visit was part of a wider trip around Islay Islay food spots | Scotland food #Islay #oysters #islayfood #exploreislayandjura #scotlandfood
