Network engineers be like: “It pings, it’s not the network” If ping replies are fine, every network engineer suddenly becomes the calmest person in the room 😎 From their side the routing is clean, VLANs are up, no packet loss in sight – so if the app is slow or the site doesn’t load, it must be someone else’s problem: servers, code, DNS, Mercury in retrograde… anything but the network. Below it, the Firewall provides security by filtering and protecting network traffic. The Network Switch manages LAN traffic and distributes connections to multiple devices. The Patch Panel is used for cable termination and organization, ensuring clean and structured cabling. Servers provide network services such as applications, file storage, and databases. For power management, the rack includes a UPS ( Uninterruptible Power Supply ) that provides backup power during outages, and a PDU ( Power Distribution Unit ) that distributes electricity to all devices. At the bottom, cooling and cable management systems maintain proper airflow and reduce heat. The more you practice, the easier it gets. 2. Cold apply to internships. I applied to 100+ engineering internships from 2024-25 (mostly on LinkedIn) and got 1 offer—but that’s all it takes to change your life forever. Take advantage of free time during school breaks to boost your odds. 3. Career fairs matter. Skip long lines if needed and talk to smaller companies. Be genuine, learn from them, and always leave with contact info. 4. Leverage classmates & professors and build your LinkedIn early—those relationships open doors. 5. Don’t fear a long commute. I commute ~4 hours daily, it’s tough, but the experience is worth the sacrifice. Do it tired, do it motivated. • • • • #engineering #internship #college

I’m on a mission to make network engineering cool again. We have a big problem online today, and few people recognize it. Every time I open my feed, I see: -Al -cloud -cybersecurity -data engineering -software developers but VERY few network engineers. The next generation is making career decisions based on what they see on the internet. Everything is built on the network. How will they know how cool it is if we don’t tell them? It’s more important than ever to make sure networking has representation to younger students choosing a career field. It’s up to us to carry the torch to the next generation! P.S.
