Killmonger is compelling because his diagnosis is right but his cure is wrong. Wakanda did hoard world-changing technology while people of African descent suffered centuries of oppression globally. His anger about that moral complicity is completely justified—if you can stop suffering and choose isolation instead, what does that make you? But he's so shaped by violence that he can only imagine liberation through domination. He wants to replace one empire with another rather than dismantling empire itself. He mistakes vengeance for justice. T'Challa realizes Killmonger is right about Wakanda's complicity but catastrophically wrong about the solution. The film lands on engagement without conquest—sharing resources without imposing will. The deeper question Killmonger forces is whether gradual reform can ever adequately address historical atrocities, or if he represents what inevitably happens when patience runs out and institutional abandonment persists too long. M’Baku got the best unscripted lines 😂 via 🎥: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever M’Baku is a standout character in the Black Panther franchise, especially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Played by Winston Duke, he’s the fierce, charismatic leader of the Jabari Tribe—a reclusive mountain-dwelling group in Wakanda that traditionally rejects much of the nation’s advanced technology and worships the gorilla god Hanuman instead of the panther goddess Bast. In the 2018 film Black Panther, M’Baku first appears as a rival to T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). He challenges T’Challa for the throne in ritual combat, rocking iconic white gorilla-fur armor and bringing that booming energy and comic relief. Though he loses, he earns respect and later becomes an ally, helping T’Challa defeat Killmonger by providing his warriors in the final battle. His arc evolves beautifully in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). After T’Challa’s passing, M’Baku steps up as a key council member, offering wisdom, brute strength, and plenty of humor while protecting Wakanda from threats like Namor and Talokan. By the end, with Shuri becoming the new Black Panther but choosing to travel rather than rule, M’Baku challenges for (and wins) the throne—becoming King of Wakanda.
