When blending new words feels a bit high pressure, try this game. You might remember the blending word game I shared the other day. Here’s how to make it work for beginner readers. Write the words on magnetic tiles. Add sound buttons under each sound. Toss the pom-pom. Where it lands… your child presses the sound buttons, says the sounds and blends the word. Read it. Erase it. Next turn. Sound buttons help children see and hear each sound, which makes blending much easier. Turning it into a game makes practicing feel safe and fun, not high risk. 💖 My tip is to start with simple CVC words (sat, rat, mat, rip,sit), then adapt it for any sounds or spelling patterns they’re learning. One simple game. So many ways to build reading confidence. Save this for later and share with a parent of a beginner reading. A 10/10 learning game I honestly didn’t expect my daughter to love this much. She kept asking to play it again and again and even her 8-year-old brother joined in (just with different words). This is why I love learning through play. Games like this build phonics, sound recognition and early reading skills without it feeling like a lesson and when kids enjoy it, the learning sticks. 🤍 SAVE THIS AND DO GIVE IT A TRY.

One thing that can confuse children when they’re learning their letters is capital and lowercase forms. They look different… They appear in different places… And sometimes they feel like two completely separate letters. So instead of drilling it with worksheets, we turned it into a game called Up or Down. I simply wrote a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters on a piece of paper and my son had to decide: ⬆️ Arrow up = uppercase ⬇️ Arrow down = lowercase Simple… but surprisingly powerful. Through play they are practising: ✨ letter recognition ✨ early reading skills ✨ pencil control And because it feels like a game, they’ll actually want to do it.
