The paradox of calorie sufficiency existing alongside stubborn micronutrient deficiencies and a sharp rise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs). While the vision for a Suposhit Bharat (Well-nourished India) by 2047 is clear, the structural challenge remains the gap between high-level policy and institutional execution. At the Public Policy Dialogues 2026, the roundtable on, 'Science to Policy Translation for Future-Ready Food Systems' in collaboration with ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, takes this challenge head-on. Hosted by the Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP), Indian School of Business, this session moves beyond the "Rice-Wheat" duopoly to examine the institutional mechanics required to shift the nation from mere food security to true Nutritional Security. The Eat Right School program is an interactive learning initiative launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in 2017 to transform India's food safety and nutrition landscape. The program focuses on school children because food habits are developed early in life, and children are viewed as powerful "change agents" who can influence their families and communities to adopt a culture of safe and wholesome food. As of recent reports, over 53,000 schools have registered for the program, and approximately 50,000 activities have been conducted nationwide.
