When someone tells me they had a good childhood but can’t remember it, I don’t assume they’re lying to themselves. I usually hear a nervous system that learned early on to keep moving, keep functioning, keep it together. A lot of people think memory loss only happens when something really bad or obvious happened. But sometimes it happens when you didn’t have the luxury to just be a kid. When you had to be emotionally aware, responsible, or low maintenance. When your feelings weren’t dangerous, but they also weren’t centered. Your system might have learned, “Nothing bad is happening, so I’ll just stay neutral.” And over time, neutral turns into fog. So instead of asking what happened, I’m more curious about how you learned to be. Did you learn to stay composed? To not need much? To move on quickly? To be the one who’s fine? In therapy, we don’t force memories to come back. That can actually feel intrusive. We listen to what shows up now. The way you talk about yourself. The way your body reacts when you slow down. The moments where you say “I don’t know why this is hard.” Because even when the mind doesn’t remember, the nervous system does. And we work with that gently, at your pace. Nothing about this means your childhood was bad. It just tells me your system adapted. And adaptation is intelligent. You can save this, share it with someone who’s always said “I don’t remember,” or leave a comment with a 🤍 if this felt familiar. And if you’ve ever wondered why parts of your past feel blank, you’re not alone and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. Brain fog and memory loss in young women aren’t just ‘all in your head.’ Four hidden root causes are often overlooked: 1️⃣ Hormonal birth control can alter brain chemistry and increase insulin resistance. 2️⃣ Low iron—even without anemia—disrupts focus and memory. 3️⃣ PCOS is strongly tied to insulin resistance and metabolic inflammation. 4️⃣ Insulin resistance itself damages brain networks years before diabetes shows up. Testing and addressing these root causes can restore clarity and protect long-term brain health. #memoryloss #womenshealth #pcos #insulinresistance #MagnoliaRx

According to psychiatry, memory loss is a common response to trauma, especially in childhood. When a child experiences overwhelming fear or stress, the brain shifts into survival mode. The areas responsible for memory and reasoning, like the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, become less active. Meanwhile, the amygdala, which processes fear, becomes hyperactive. Because of this, traumatic memories may not be stored like normal ones. They can become blurry, fragmented, or even completely blocked from awareness. This is not forgetting. It is a form of protection. Some people lose entire periods of their childhood. Others remember only flashes or body sensations. Some regain memories much later in life. All of these are normal and valid trauma responses. If your memories are unclear or missing, that does not mean you are making things up. It means your brain did what it had to do to survive❤️‍🩹

ever feel like you barely remember your own life? with ADHD it’s not memory loss. it’s memory not being stored. when your brain lives in stress, urgency, overstimulation, it switches to survival mode. you’re there - but not fully present. you didn’t forget because you didn’t care. your brain was busy coping. what helps isn’t “trying to remember”. it’s regulating first, so moments can actually land. if this hit, comment “memory” and I’ll share the guide that helped me feel present again.

In the late 1970s, a man named Silvano became unable to sleep. At first, it seemed minor. He had trouble falling asleep. He woke up frequently. Doctors thought it was stress. But the problem worsened. Soon, Silvano could not sleep at all. Not for hours. Not for minutes. At night, his body remained awake. His mind never shut down. As days passed, his condition deteriorated. He developed: • severe anxiety • hallucinations • confusion • memory loss His heart rate stayed high. His body temperature became unstable. His autonomic system began to fail. Doctors discovered something terrifying. Silvano was suffering from Fatal Familial Insomnia — an extremely rare genetic brain disease. The disorder destroys the thalamus — the part of the brain that regulates sleep. Without it, sleep becomes impossible. No medication worked. No sedative helped. Even anesthesia failed to produce real sleep. Over months, Silvano lost the ability to speak clearly. He lost coordination. He lost control over basic bodily functions. Eventually, his body shut down. There was no cure. This case fundamentally changed neuroscience. It demonstrated that: • sleep is an active brain process • without sleep, the body cannot survive • consciousness depends on specific brain structures Fatal Familial Insomnia is one of the only conditions where the inability to sleep leads inevitably to death. The brain does not recover. It collapses. Source: Lugaresi et al. (1986) New England Journal of Medicine Italian Neurological Institute #explorepage✨ #darkpsychology #psychologyfact #mystery

the way Charu slowly forgets reminds us… Alzheimer’s is not just “normal forgetting” here’s how you can actually identify it: 🌸 it’s when someone starts forgetting recent conversations, repeating the same questions again and again 🌸 when simple tasks like managing money or following daily routines start feeling confusing when they lose track of time, forget where they are, or get lost even in familiar places 🌸 when words don’t come easily anymore, and expressing thoughts becomes difficult 🌸 when they misplace things in unusual places and begin to doubt or blame others 🌸 when their personality changes, more irritable, anxious, or withdrawn than before 🌸 when judgment becomes poor, and small decisions start going wrong 🌸 and slowly… they begin to pull away from people and things they once loved this is not just memory loss, this is Alzheimer’s, where a person fades in parts, but emotions still remain 🧠 save this, you might need it for someone you love follow for more Alzheimer’s made simple💜
