Missing person FOUND! Our Search and Rescue Team members have been helping Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office search for missing at-risk woman Jean Marie Etherton. Today our team members found her alive. They were elated! Led by Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue Teams from several counties worked together to methodically search for her. You can find more information on this case on Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue pages. Search and Rescue Teams from across the state can be called into action through a mutual aid request through CalOES. This allows people from different agencies to come together and work as one big team. These resources can make all the difference in bringing someone home safely. Their teamwork and dedication is truly remarkable. We are extraordinarily proud of our Search and Rescue Team members, all of them volunteers, who donate their time and skills in service of others. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork

#Repost @hoist_operators_union On Saturday (1 MAR) a male and female hiker fell over 700’ near Tahquitz Peak in Riverside County. Both hikers sustained serious injuries. Riverside County Sheriff resources immediately responded. Inclement weather limited aviation resources. SAR teams were able to reach the victims and setup a series of rope systems to rescue the hikers. On Sunday, Riverside County Sheriff initiated a mutual aid request through the California Office of Emergency Services Law Enforcement Branch. SAR teams from San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino counties were mission tasked for the incident. On Sunday evening, the teams encountered a storm, requiring them to shelter in place with the victims. Monday saw cooperative weather, allowing two rescue helicopters to hoist both victims, and transport them to a trauma center for care. Juneteenth, or June 19, is the commemoration of the day in 1865 when the final enslaved people in Galveston, TX were informed of their emancipated status. For non-Black folks, it is a day to grapple with our anti-Blackness & the systemic racism that persists today. A day to learn about generational wealth & ways to distribute it. “Mutual aid is an act of solidarity that builds sustained networks between neighbors. Mutual-aid systems operate under the notion that everyone has something to contribute, & everyone has something they need.” @nytimes More personally, mutual aid is acknowledging our systems are flawed. While working to create/enact/demand change, there are members of our community who cannot wait for the systemically racist & oppressive systems to be fixed. They need those inequalities to be directly addressed & they need help ASAP. And we likely have resources to help. Mutual aid also requires that we identify our privilege. That way, when presented with a mutual aid request, we can acknowledge that people have unmet needs due to inequalities that exist. They may have intersecting oppressed identities, they may not have access to certain resources, or they may just need a little help. JERMAINE NEEDS OUR HELP! Jermaine Greaves is an activist, event planner, & founder of the @blackdisabledlivesmatters movement in NYC. From @jermainegreaves : “Jermaine needs funds for medical supplies & care support & assistance in finding ways to manage hidradenitis suppurativa URGENTLY. This is a matter of survival. And showing up for each other is how we move from a place of individual survival into a future communal thriving! I don’t know what to say but thank you. Thank you to every single one of you who shared my mutual aid request, reached out to me, and donated ——— I am absolutely humbled by the capacity of care every single one of you has shared with me. I’ve been in my bag since yesterday and I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be in community with all of you. I would not have asked if I wasn’t desperate. I hope I never have to ask again, despite how unpredictable life can be, but until then I just want to tell you how much I appreciate all of you. My mutual aid request will stay open until I find work and receive my first check, but until then, I will keep you posted on my situation. I know that a lot of you are also broke and figuring out how to survive, which held me back from asking for help initially. I don’t really know a lot of people who haven’t been struggling just to survive, so for all of you to be so giving is incredibly humbling. I promise to pass it forward once I’m in a better place.
