I understand that a muzzle affords us an added layer of safety and some comfort, but the handling in the first video was either intentional to add drama to the video, or a poor attempt at defensive handling and de-escalation. As a professional, even when handling a muzzled dog, there should be a concious effort to practice and improve your defensive handling skills.

It doesn’t mean the dog is aggressive, or that the owner has done something wrong. In fact, they’re just following the law. Under Irish law, unfortunately certain breeds are required to be muzzled in public places, including Akitas, even if they’ve never shown a hint of aggression. It’s not a reflection of the dog’s behavior or personality—it’s simply a legal requirement here in Ireland. Andy shows you in the video that Drago is the same dog with or without his muzzle on. So please, next time you see a dog with a muzzle, remember: that’s not a bad dog, it’s probably actually a loved dog with an owner who is trying to keep him safe ♥️

Somedays I am shocked that a lot of people don’t know about the XL bully ban here in the UK and why Meko wears a muzzle. I get messages and sometimes comments when we are out in public asking “Why does he need a muzzle?” - Whilst we know muzzles are an AMAZING tools for a lot of dogs for all different reasons. Such as eating poop, scavenging and sometimes being reactive. Meko doesn’t actually do any of them. Meko’s country ( 🇬🇧 ) banned his entire breed and one of the many rules was that he must be muzzled in all public places, and yes even including in a car. If we didn’t follow the rules Meko would be at risk of being seized and potentially euthanised. It’s simply a risk we would never take but believe it is so unfair. Days out aren’t the same and Meko can no longer play with his balls / sticks around the fields and must stay on a lead. I wanted to say because a dog is wearing a muzzle does not mean he / she is aggressive and you do not need to cross the road. If you see a muzzled dog then you know that dog has a responsible owner. Of course, Lace still has her moments and some times the world throws us challenges… but it is so worth the effort. 🧡 The “after” clips may not seem too special, but to me there is nothing more special than seeing this dog able to relax. (I totally teared up making this.) P.S. please don’t lift your dog and swing them around! They are not kids, their backs aren’t meant to bend and stretch that way! It’s my responsibility to protect him. Cormick and Finn love horse poop. They eat it like its candy. Instead of losing my mind, I’m helping them by stopping the snacking with muzzles.
