JEOne of my favorite things about starting a new quilting project is I can either take someone else’s pattern that I love and add my own twist to it with the fabrics and the placement of everything or I can be creative in a different way by making a design from scratch. Making your own quilt design definitely takes more brain work, but I find that it brings so much creative joy, and challenges me as an artist in a way that scratches my brain just right. If you haven’t designed your own quilt or even mini quilt yet, I challenge you to make your own design from scratch whether it be traditional, piecing, appliqué, or whatever you like best. It’s an exercise that will help you grow as a Quilter and an artist. And I hope it brings you as much joy as it brings me!

RIThrowback ⭐️ hard to believe this was over a year ago! This was one of my very first sleepy star felt patch prototypes (yes, the pattern is on Etsy<3).
Every fall and winter I find myself coming back to fabric and fiber crafts. Did anyone else grow up quilting, sewing doll clothes, knitting, or needle felting? Some of my first artistic loves!

RAcrazy quilt bandanna !!! i absolutely *adore* this technique of patchworking. it allows me to just get into the flow of sewing and designing without worrying about measurements, or cutting perfectly straight edges. i can just grab a scrap and sew it, and i'm left with this unique design when all done!!
what's your favorite method for using up scraps?? my scrap bin(s) have gotten out of hand recently, so i could really use new ideas to spark some creativity 😂 i hope this video inspired someone out there to tackle their own scraps 🤍🪡

CALet’s be real: “kid rotting” is only an option if you have the privilege to let your kids lounge around all summer with no worries.
Working parents don’t get to choose between enrichment or free-range boredom. They’re juggling jobs and patchworking together childcare so their kids are safe, cared for, and maybe even gasp having fun.
So before we romanticize boredom as a sign of good parenting, let’s ask: Who actually gets to let their kids “rot”? And who’s out here hustling just to make summer work?

SAThe Japanese, who lived in a harsh condition with limited resources, stitched to “prevent” the mending. With following the proper wisdom, the fabric gets a lot stronger. Boro is a result of this tremendous repetition: “prevention”, “repair”, and “patchworking”. It is good that we enjoy the beauty of these pieces. Indeed, they are beautiful. However, when one says “Inspired”, I wish they are inspired not only by looking but also the stories behind it. There is nothing wrong with repairing the denim with patches & Sashiko. I enjoy that, too. However, the story doesn’t end as “Sashiko & Boro is stitching technique”. Please learn it more, mindfully, and from someone you would like to learn from.

これまで運針をお教えしてきて、以前にも増して「”運針教えてますよ”と宣伝していない」のは、ある意味で満足してしまっているからなんだと配信でお伝えしてきました。「頼りにしてるんだから」と応援頂くのと同時に、20年間悩んできたことは、この5年間で「予期せぬ形」で良い方向に変わりました。それだけ、ご縁を頂いて運針をお伝えしてきた方々の刺し子が、「僕が昔に見ていた刺し子」にどんどん近づいているからだと思います。「誰」が刺し子をするかによって、刺し子の結果は変わると思っていたので、悩みは尽きませんでした。それが「どう刺し子と向き合うか」によって刺し子の結果が変わるんだと理解するようになりました。そして、刺し子と向き合い運針を続けることこそが、僕が憧れていた「誰」になる過程なんだろうなと。

「何を大袈裟なことを」と思われるかもしれません。所詮針仕事、そんな深いものなんてないだろうと思われるのが自然だと思います。僕も客観的にみたらそうなるもの。ただ、今では考えられない「狂気」の中で生きてきた日本人がいた訳で、その狂気の周辺まで喜んで（楽しんで）近づいていく方々と知り合えたのは、やっぱり「運針を教える」というご縁を頂いたからなんだろうなと思います。

運針をお伝えした皆様の刺し子を直に手で触れることが、刺し子をする上での一番の楽しみになりました。とても素敵な刺し子です。
