Harvesting pecans 🌳 Our friend has an old pecan tree in her backyard. She said we could come harvest pecans! We learned a lot today. We learned that they are ready when they fall to the ground. We learned (through trial and error) that the best way to shell them is to cut the ends off and then gently crack the shell with pliers. The shell comes right off leaving mostly intact pecan halves. We learned that fresh pecans taste wildly different than store bought as store pecans have usually gone slightly rancid by the time we purchase them. Fresh pecans are sweet and moist! Shelling pecans is a labor of love but worth the time together. Whatever we use the nuts for will taste even better because we were part of the process from start to finish. #slowliving #pecans #raiseyourownfood #growyourownfood

Candied Pecans Serving 4 cups Ready in 1 hr Ingredients: 1 lb unsalted pecans halves 1/2 c granulated sugar 1/2 c light brown sugar 1 tbs ground cinnamon 1 tsp salt 1 egg white 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp water Directions: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. In a bowl combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well combined and set aside. In a separate bowl, add water, vanilla extract and an egg white. Use a whisk or hand mixer to mix until frothy. Add the pecans to the egg mixture and toss until the pecans are coated with the mixture. Begin to add the sugar mixture to the bowl and continue to toss until the pecans are covered. Place on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 35 minutes flipping every 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool before taking them off the baking sheet. Serve as a snack or store them up to a month in an airtight container and just like my name you’re all done! #Mealsbyaldenb #recipe #sweettreat

The tastiest snack to have on hands year round: maple roasted pecans 🍁 These sweet, mouthwatering pecans are probably wayyyyy to easy to make if I’m being honest 🤣 They’re sweetened with sugar & maple syrup and roasted to perfection for the absolute BEST crunch. If you need a sweet treat on hand that’s also high protein and cheap to DIY - give these a go 🌝 Maple roasted pecans: -2 cups pecans -1/4 cup cane sugar -2 tbsp maple syrup -1 tsp vanilla -1/2 tsp sea salt (if pecans are unsalted) Add 2 tbsp water if you’re having trouble mixing everything together! Preheat the oven to 375 and mix all ingredients in a bowl then lay them onto parchment paper & bake for 12-15 minutes. Remove when the pecans will begin to brown and let sit for 10 minutes before enjoying! #pecans #pecan #roastedpecans #maplesyrup #fallrecipes #fallfood #snackideas

Save this recipe for later HERE ⤵️✨ 🧁 High Fibre Chocolate Granola Tray Recipe (15 servings): 🥣 200g rolled oats 🌾 25g flaxseed 🌱 25g chia seeds 🌰 25g almonds 🌰 25g walnuts 🌰 25g pecans 🎃 25g pumpkin seeds 🥥 25g coconut shavings 🍒 60g dried cranberries 🍯 80g honey 🥜 80g peanut butter 🍫 80g dark chocolate (added after baking) 1. Add all of the ingredients except the dark chocolate into a bowl. 2. Combine everything together until evenly mixed. 3. Lay out evenly on a lined baking tray. 4. Bake in a preheated oven at 160°C for ~25 minutes. 5. Allow to cool for 15 minutes. 6. Attempting to manifest fall despite the 95-degree temps in Arkansas this week. Roasted pecans always make me think of my Gammy (coffee ice cream and Melba Toast were classic Gammy commodities), and today I tried a new spice medley. Spread an even layer of pecans, drizzle with half a stick of melted butter, sprinkle on celery salt and paprika, and pop them in a 325-degree oven for ten minutes. Pull them out, give ’em a stir, then bake for another ten. They turned out delish and now I’m wondering… what other spice combos should I try? Any favorites?
