This happens because of Boyle’s Law, which states that the pressure and volume of a gas are inversely related: when pressure increases, gas volume decreases. At 2.5 times normal atmospheric pressure, the carbon dioxide gas inside the soda is compressed, meaning its bubbles take up less volume and exert less force trying to escape.
