JOIt’s just been my experience, but open to hearing other opinions.
I read Polysecure and used to listen to the Multiamory podcast religiously. At the end of the day… you just have to be able to trust your partner. Know that they have the best intentions, are honest, and genuinely care about your well being/ safety.
A lot of the language/ concepts surrounding the topic of polyamory is refreshingly progressive! (setting boundaries, love is not finite, needs vs wants, repair shop, etc.) However this language can be used as tools of manipulation. A shovel can be used to dig a hole, or bash someone’s brains in.
Point being, it’s not just about knowing healthy communication practices, and having a fundamental understanding of polyamory. It’s important that both/ all parties involved have genuine care for each other, and make decisions out of good faith. It’s the intentionality behind putting these concepts into practice. It’s using these communication tools for their intended purpose/ function. To better understand/ work with each other; not to get someone to do what you want.
That’s my 5 cents…
I have a lot more to learn and say.

BROne of the greatest gifts my husband has ever given me
was loving me enough to welcome our girlfriend into our lives.
Not as a phase.
Not to scratch an itch.
Not to fill a gap.
But to complete our family.
His love for me didn’t come from control or ownership.
It came from presence.
From honesty.
From staying when most people would have walked away.
And in honouring me so fully, something unexpected happened —
my love for him grew deeper.
My trust in him became unshakeable.
This story isn’t about not loving my husband.
Or loving him less.
Or choosing someone else over him.
It’s about him loving me so deeply
that he chose to honour all of me —
even the parts that didn’t fit inside a socially accepted box.
Recreating a relationship outside of the norm is uncomfortable.
It asks you to unlearn what you were taught about love, security, and “shoulds.”
It asks you to sit with jealousy, fear, ego, and vulnerability —
and to stay present instead of running.
Our girlfriend didn’t arrive to take anything away.
She arrived with love, care, laughter, and truth.
She became a partner, a companion, a family member —
woven into our lives with intention, respect, and deep consideration.
And if you are moving through a change like this —
whether in love, identity, truth, or the way your life is reshaping itself —
know this:
You are not broken.
You are not selfish.
You are not “too much.”
Change asks for honesty before it asks for certainty.
And love, real love, often expands in ways we were never taught to imagine.
This is not a story of excess.
It’s a story of devotion.
Of choosing honesty over convenience.
Of expanding love instead of shrinking ourselves to keep others comfortable.
The real gift wasn’t polyamory.
The gift was being met with presence.
The gift was being seen and trusted.
The gift was being loved fully —
not despite who I am, but because of it.
And that kind of love…
it deepens everything.

INVery often if you come across someone, especially on a dating app who says they are polyamorous and in a DADT relationship, I’ll just say proceed with caution or literally just stay away. Some call it that when they mean parallel polyamory (these are all just words anyways and some assign different meaning to them), but very often their partner doesn’t actually know they are on dating apps or even calling themselves polyamorous.
Soon I need to talk about why I think the term DADT in polyamory REALLY shouldn’t be called that. Why is this the chosen term for that dynamic geez!

REKids recognize love in all its forms, and families in whatever forms we introduce them to as normal. My kids have 3 parents, two moms and a dad, and a lot of our friends are either polyam or queer, so when our oldest was little, it honestly didn’t occur to him that most families didn’t look like ours. When my son was 3 he came home from a preK “all about families” activity and very sincerely asked us “did you know most families only have ONE mom??”

KOThe city of Olympia is drafting an ordinance to extend legal protections against discrimination to families beyond the traditional nuclear structure, such as polyamorous and other diverse family structures.
The proposed ordinance would add "family or relationship structure" as a protected category under the city's existing civil rights protections.
"With issues like this, you constantly find that, not that folks are underground, but it’s hard for folks to come forward about these things because it is a very private thing, and we want them to feel welcome in our community and not ostracized," Olympia City Council Member Robert Vanderpool said.
