A perfect turn isn’t luck — it’s precise mechanics working in harmony. The outside leg stretches long on the inside edge, the inside leg bends deep on the outside edge, and the upper body leads with turned shoulders, outstretched arm, and eyes guiding the path. When all of it lines up, turning becomes one of the most beautiful movements in hockey.

AMWorking on smooth transitions, hip mobility, staying low, and ‘facing the play’ are all critical skills for D-men, and all players, really!
Notice how well he rotates under the shoulders during those deep edges for this first exercise, while stroking powerfully into the 2 F strides!!
Then he sinks down low on the back inside of the Mohawk drill to again ensure balance before the backward weight transfers. Quiet Power!

NOSkating technique lesson 6: Counters. Counter is another type of turn from the difficult list of turns. And just like rockers and brackets it requires significant rotation of the upper body.
When performing counters there are a few different techniques that we can use for the upper body and where the free leg goes after the turn. But generally we have to take into account every skaters individuality, ability and specific needs to be able to find the right solution. This is a complex turn and so much goes into it, in this video I went over a few key moments for counter technique.
