I did my best to hold the camera steady, here’s what 15 minutes of the march looked like. A lot of the signs focused on the war in Iran and ICE. A huge crowd gathered before hand in Grant Park, where Mayor Brandon Johnson, Lt. Gov. Julianna Stratton and others spoke.

In Srinagar, Budgam, and Baramulla, where people protested against smart meters and electricity billing, nearly ₹17–18 crore has been raised to support people affected in Iran. This contrast deserves a serious attention. If there is opposition to paying electricity bills and concerns are being raised over proper billing, how is such a large amount being mobilized at the same time for an international cause? Helping people in crisis reflects humanity and empathy, and that should be respected. But alongside empathy comes civic responsibility. Electricity, roads, transport, and public infrastructure run on taxpayer money. These systems survive only when citizens also contribute fairly. The real issue, therefore, is not donation versus no donation, but whether public duty and humanitarian concern can go together. Can a society show generosity for global causes while also fulfilling its responsibility towards its own public systems? That is the real question. A nation becomes stronger when compassion is matched with accountability, and when emotional solidarity is balanced with civic duty. Jai Hind. Jai Bharat. 🇮🇳

Minnesota took center stage, in what organizers expected to be mass demonstrations involving millions of people. Thousands of people stood shoulder-to-shoulder on the Minnesota Capitol lawn and surrounding streets in St. Paul. Some held upside down US flags, historically a sign of distress. The event’s headliner was Bruce Springsteen, who performed “ Streets of Minneapolis,” He wrote the song in response to the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents and in tribute to the thousands of Minnesotans who took to the streets over the winter to protest the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement. Before he launched into the song, Springsteen lamented Good and Pretti’s deaths but said people’s continued pushback against US. Customs and Immigration Enforcement has given the rest of the country hope. “Your strength and your commitment told us that this was still America,” he said. “And this reactionary nightmare, and these invasions of American cities, will not stand.” People rallied from New York City, with almost 8.5 million residents in a solidly blue state, to Driggs, a town of fewer than 2,000 people in eastern Idaho, a state Trump carried with 66 per cent of the vote in 2024.
