SAI stopped …
spending money ‘unconsciously’ and started carrying and using cash again - you really feel cold hard cash coming out of your pocket instead of just tapping your phone here there and everywhere.
I reframed “not spending” money and think of it as “buying myself freedom” instead.
Small sensible choices that actually add up.
Here’s what I do 👇
• No more expensive gel manicures – I make time to do them at home
• No Starbucks habit (nothing against it… I just make better coffee myself ☕️)
• I don’t buy bottled water – saves money and the planet for my grandchildren
• Credit cards are for emergencies only, not lifestyle
• Fewer clothes & better choices (and I actually wear them)
• No cleaner anymore – I do it myself one room a day and everyone mucks in
• Less food on the run. I prioritise prepping and being better organised, including food shopping = better meals at home.
• Cancelled subscriptions I’d forgotten existed
• No impulse buys at 10pm or after a glass of wine. If I still want it next week - then ok.
• No car upgrade. I make sure my 9 year old car is well maintained and looked after. It sits at a train station all day anyway.
None of these changes have made me miserable or feel like I’m going without .
The changes have given me breathing room and a sense of control.
But here’s the real game changer 👇
Cutting back helps…
but it won’t change your life on its own.
Last year I realised I didn’t want to spend the next decade
just being careful with money.
