TODAY IN THE LIFE OF A REWILDER: MANE MASAT
Have you ever wondered what rewilding work looks like? We followed experienced @rewilding_argentina rewilder, Marianela (Mane) Masat who works with the red-and-green macaws to reintroduce them to Iberá Park @parqueiberacorrientes. Through rain or shine, Mane is passionately dedicated to caring for the macaws to ensure their survival so that they can fulfill their important role in the ecosystem as seed dispersers.
It is arduous, complicated work. These spectacular birds were driven to extinction in Argentina over 150 years ago, so their return to Iberá is the first attempt to restore a nationally extinct species in Argentina. Since most of the macaws were born in captivity, they must be taught to survive in the wild - to find food and water, to avoid predators. Luckily, they are very intelligent and learn quickly, and there is about 40 flying free and wild in Iberá Park.
