DUAIF: STOP MAKING THIS MISTAKE 🥲🙈💔
the SACE performance standards indicate that you need to show “discerning judgement” and that your strategies, perspectives and feedback should be “interrelated.” but what does this mean? 🤨⬇️
your AIF should not be completely planned out from the beginning. you will obviously have brainstorms/mindmaps and other strategies to form an initial “planning” phase, but you should not investigate your topic based on what you wrote down in week 1.
this planning phase is great to give you an IDEA of what to explore, but as you explore different perspectives, seek and apply feedback, and gain new knowledge, you should be REFINING/ADAPTING your AIF journey to align better with your final learning goal and output. you should clearly show that A —> B —> C —> D. nothing is done “just because.”
everything you do should be included in your portfolio, even if you don’t think it’s useful. i am a heavy believer of NEVER DELETING WORK — your AIF journey does not need to be perfect (because hey, neither is life!)
if certain information didn’t help you out, or a strategy wasn’t the best for you, this should inform all your decisions moving forward.
for example, if you touch a hot plate, your brain learns pretty quickly to not touch it again!
likewise, if you hate math and looking at numbers, and can’t quite grasp quantitative data analysis, why would you keep sending out surveys? perhaps there are other methods of data collection / natural evidence that would be better suited to you as a learner, and would help you work towards your learning goal/output? (but again—you don’t know this unless you try).
time is a risk — for example, you only have 10 weeks to explore your topic and work towards your learning goal. you should not be aimlessly running in circles — everything you do should inform your next decision (and you have to EXPLICITY write this! e.g “based on ____’s feedback, based on this video, based on these key points…”)
