The purpose of bunching (schooling) and moving to the surface (often called "surfacing" or "piping") in fish is generally a survival response to environmental stress, most commonly a lack of oxygen in the water, known as hypoxia. In both natural habitats and aquariums, this behavior is a distress signal. Primary Reasons for Bunching and Surfacing Low Oxygen (Hypoxia): Fish gulp at the surface because the highest concentration of dissolved oxygen is found where air meets water. Thermal Stress: Warm water holds less oxygen than cold water, driving fish to the surface. Poor Water Quality: High levels of ammonia, nitrites, or low pH (which can happen with overfeeding or in overstocked tanks) stress fish, reducing their ability to breathe and forcing them to seek more oxygen. Predator Avoidance/Collective Behavior: In some environments, small fish bunch together and surface in rhythmic waves to evade predators (such as birds) by creating confusion. Feeding: Surface-feeding species may bunch together to feed on insects or debris on the water's surface. Overview of "Hurdling" or Jumping Behavior Carp: Often jump or "hurdle" to shake off parasites, spawn, or simply to take in air, often making significant splashes. Mullet: Known to jump in large groups, often as a mechanism to escape predators or due to environmental factors. ⭐️What is FLEXI- SCHOOLING?⭐️ 1️⃣ Where you enter into an agreement with the school for your child to attend school on a part time basis. When the child is not in school they will be home educated. 2️⃣ When home educating as part of a flexi-school agreement you DO NOT have to follow the curriculum. 3️⃣The school has the final say in allowing a flexi-school agreement. There is no appeal process. 4️⃣ Everyone has a legal right to apply for flexi-schooling but many schools are VERY resistant. However a school must put the child’s needs and welfare at the heart of their decision. 5️⃣ Concerns around attendance can often arise, as the LEA will be on their back, this should not however be a reason to refuse a flexi-school request. They will also likely raise issues around socialisation, socialisation with your family is also important! Logistically schools can feel it would be distributive to a child’s learning, careful consideration is needed here! 7️⃣ You also wouldn’t want flexi-schooling to create an unreasonable extra workload for already underpaid, overworked and exhausted teachers. 8️⃣ You will need to prove the enhanced educational benefit for the child and ideally work together with the school for a shared focus. 9️⃣ Schools that allow flexi schooling tend to allow it for a trial period first with a date set for a review. 🔟 Schools receive 100% funding even if a child is in school part time! ⭐️ Speak to the headteacher and get in touch with your local authority to find out how you can apply. ⭐️ With a mental health epidemic this could be a wonderful way for children to still receive a mainstream education and be allowed to explore other interest without burnout! Schools are massively underfunded and so many of our children that need extra support simply aren’t getting it! If parents can offer an alternative, then why are so many schools saying no when they can’t provide what our children need! Also I have sooo much love for teachers working in school! They do an incredible job with the resources they do have! 👏🏽. #homeeducation #flexischool #unschooling #send #autism #asd #montessori #playbasedlearning #education #ukgovernment
