GUMy number 1 tip for scribing beginners 👇🏻
Scribing can be intimidating, and really easy to mess up which can put you off the skill forever. This is the tip I tell all who ask how to get into it…
Start by rescribing. Rescribe existing panel lines, edges, notches, everything on the kit. Why is this important? Here’s what it teaches you:
1. Muscle memory. How the chisel feel each time it rests against an edge/piece of tape.
2. What the chisel feels like gliding across the plastic against an edge.
3. The feeling of pulling up plastic and how to adjust your pressure based off that feeling.
Overall, this is going to get you more familiar with the chisel in your hand and what the action feels like without damaging a kit too badly. Once you’ve gotten comfortable with rescribing you can move to basic patterns and then on to more intermediate patterns.
