GEThe True Church and the Rise of Man-Made Sects
Christianity was founded by Christ Himself and entrusted to His holy apostles. For a thousand years the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church stood as the guardian of truth. The councils of the fathers defined the faith, the martyrs shed their blood for Christ, and the Church spread from Jerusalem to Rome, from Constantinople to Antioch, from Alexandria to the ends of the known world.
But after the Great Schism of 1054, when Rome separated from the rest of the apostolic Church, the unity of Christendom was broken. Out of this wound grew countless new sects, each led not by the Holy Spirit but by human ambition and pride.
In 1517 Martin Luther sparked the Lutheran Church, the first great Protestant break. In 1534 Henry VIII, driven by politics and lust, created the Anglican Church. John Calvin followed with his Reformed Church in 1536. John Smyth gave birth to the Baptists in 1609, splitting further into endless contradictions. William Miller and Ellen G. White in the 1800s brought the Adventist movement, built on failed prophecies. Charles Taze Russell in the 1870s invented the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a man-made ideology disguised as Christianity. Joseph Smith in 1830 created Mormonism, pure fiction and deception. John Wesley in the 1700s launched Methodism, yet another deviation from the apostolic path.
All of these groups claimed the name of Christ but rejected the apostolic Church. Detached from the sacraments and the councils of the fathers, they became shifting sands of human ideas, drowning in contradictions.
The Orthodox Church alone has kept the unbroken faith of the apostles, the same faith proclaimed in the first century, the same sacraments, the same holy tradition. The truth of Christ does not change. The Church that He founded remains.
