Lately I have been seeing too many stories of young people whose lives ended in the most senseless ways. And the common thread is envy. One was in an accident that plunged their vehicle into water. One person made it out safely but refused to get help for her friend. Refused to speak up until it was too late. Another 27 year old. Poisoned. It makes you weary and truly worried. Envy is not loud. It doesn't always look like hatred. Sometimes it smiles with you. Sometimes it sits at your table. Sometimes it celebrates you publicly and competes with you privately. Young people share everything now. Wins. Trips. Relationships. Purchases. Achievements. But not everyone clapping for you has the emotional capacity to handle your light. And that is the scary part. Parents, please watch your children’s circle more closely. Not to control them. Not to suffocate them. But to help them discern. Please, teach them that not every friend is safe. Teach them that love doesn't compete, and that loyalty is proven in small moments long before it is tested in life or death situations. Sometimes danger doesn't come from strangers. It comes from close ones. We pray for protection from external evil, but sometimes the lesson is purely discernment. Who sits at your table matters. Who knows your you don't share loudly, matters.
