Yet churches have pastors, reverends, doctors of divinity. Are we disobeying? Here’s what most people miss... Jesus wasn’t banning functional roles—He was condemning prideful hierarchy. The Pharisees loved titles that elevated them above others. They craved honor, special seats, public recognition. Jesus attacked spiritual elitism, not practical labels. Think about it: Ephesians 4:11 says God gave “some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.” These are functions, not forbidden titles. Paul called himself a teacher (1 Timothy 2:7). The issue isn’t the word—it’s the heart. But here’s the part that changes everything: Verse 11 says “he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.” Jesus redefined spiritual authority as servanthood. If you use titles to lord over people or demand special honor, you violate Christ’s command. If titles describe function humbly, they’re permitted. And here’s what most people never understand: Christ alone is ultimate Teacher. Human teachers exist—but they’re under Christ’s authority, not independent authorities. 1 Corinthians 3:5 asks “Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers?” Just servants pointing to the Master. But here’s the hidden truth about Jesus’ command: It exposes heart motives. Do you demand titles to feel important? Do you require “Pastor” or “Reverend” to validate yourself? And here’s what this means for you: Respect spiritual leaders, but don’t idolize them. Honor function, but don’t create hierarchy. Christ alone deserves ultimate allegiance. So the question isn’t “Are titles allowed?” The question is “Do titles create pride or facilitate humble service?” Because Jesus opposes exaltation but blesses servanthood. 🔥 Did this message move your spirit?
