I used to see pretty green labels and see words like "safe" "green" "clean" "natural" "organic" and think that those were the best options. Then I learned about greenwashing. Greenwashing is when companies market to people who want safer cleaner options. Many times companies also buy out clean brands and change the ingredients to make the product cheaper to manufacture. Think someone is watching out for consumers? Think again, sadly there are only ELEVEN ingredients banned in personal care products in the US vs 1600 that are banned in Europe. I used to grab whatever was on sale. Then I actually started reading labels. Brands I refuse to buy now that I know better: Tide – Synthetic fragrance blends + optical brighteners. “Fragrance” alone can hide dozens of chemicals. Gain – Long-lasting scent = long-lasting residue on clothes. Seventh Generation – Cleaner marketing, but still fragrance formulations I don’t want on our skin. Dreft – Baby branding but it’s just as bad as perfume. Your detergent sits on your skin 24/7. I’m not trying to live in a bubble. I just want to lower overall toxins in a way that feels realistic. The alternative we switched to surprised me, honestly. Works so much better and has scent free options or natural essential oils. No endocrine disrupters, no cancer causing chemicals. If you know, you know! if you don’t, let’s chat! 🤍

So many of those brands are so freaking expensive! living “nontoxic” can be super basic – don’t let everyone convince you that you need more than you actually do. why pay $22 for Branch Basics oxygen boost when you can use a $.99 box of baking soda?! add some to your next grocery pickup ;)

According to an Environmental working group study, OVER 70% of products that contain “fragrances” contained endocrine disruptors. Even the ones that tell you that they’re “natural”. Endocrine disruptors: think hormones, your thyroid, metabolism, and fertility. Getting all jacked up because you need to walk around smelling like you just jumped out of the dryer all day. 😉 So here are my top swaps for laundry detergent! I use all of these! @trulyfreehome @mollys_suds *in Target! @branchbasics *in Target! @youngliving You could also get super crunchy and make it yourself! Nobody told us that “fragrance” can mean dozens (sometimes hundreds) of undisclosed chemicals. Nobody told us detergent residue stays in our clothes. Nobody told us some ingredients have been linked to skin irritation, hormone disruption in high doses, and cancer. But here we are. And now we get to do better, because we know better! Also. Just so we’re clear. I love target and there’s no hate and I’m super pumped to see them carrying cleaner brands! #crunchymom #nontoxichome #nontoxicswaps #millenialmom
