COEvery glider should steal this from David Storl.
He’s one of the best gliders of all time and a 22+ meter shot putter, and there are a few things he does in the circle that are incredibly teachable.
First is the starting position. He starts extremely low, with the chest nearly on the knee, but more importantly, he stays low as he moves across the circle.
A lot of throwers start low and then pop up early, which kills speed and connection.
Second is the explosion off the right foot. That right-leg push is the engine of the entire throw.
Everything that happens later only works because of how forcefully he drives out of the back.
Third is the power position. When the left foot lands, his shoulders and head are still back, eyes looking toward the back of the circle.
That open position gives him more time to accelerate the shot instead of rushing the finish.
That combination of staying low, exploding off the right, and being patient in the power position is why he could throw so far.
