Follow up to my last video. In this video I set up two cameras in the same spot as the las one. These cameras were painted black inside and used an aluminum can for the pinhole lens. The last camera was not painted black and I used tin foil for my pinhole lens. At the end there’s a comparison between opening the camera in direct sunlight vs. opening it in dim lighting. . #pinholephotography #darkroomphotography #slowphotography #analogphotography #solargraphy

In this video you see four images. Each one first appears as a negative, exactly as it comes out of the camera obscura, and then as a positive. What makes this process special is the technique behind it. In solargraphy we place black and white photo paper inside a simple pinhole camera. During the exposure, which can last days, months or even a full year, sunlight slowly creates a latent negative image directly on the paper. The fascinating part is that after just a few days the image is already visible. There is no darkroom and no chemicals involved. The sun itself develops the picture. This only works with the technique of solargraphy and makes every image truly unique. To turn the negative into a positive we have to scan the photo paper. The moment the scanner light touches the surface, the fragile negative is permanently destroyed. At the same time the digital file is created and saved. It is a process that can only happen once. There is no second scan and no correction. After this step the physical image no longer exists. Only the digital file remains. Titles of the images shown: 1. A 3 week long pinhole camera solar graph exposure made out of a monster can. Inspired and supplied by @matthew_c41 . I’ve made a few 2 week cans recently and I wanted a more distinct sun line so I decided to expose for a little longer. I was pleased as this can retained detail of buildings as it was well secured and got a decent sun line! The can is made by piercing it with a small hole with a pin and putting darkroom paper in in the complete dark and sealing it back up. Then opening the tape shutter and leaving it to expose for a long time. After this the image is basically burnt onto the paper so it doesn’t need developing and comes out pink. I just invert it then in photoshop.#alternativephotography #pinholecamera #monsterenergydrink
