MIThe word “stubborn” gets thrown around a lot with dogs when they are not responding, not responding quick enough, or expecting a dog to be that way based on their breed. When people tell me their dog is being stubborn, I know it is one of several possibilities. Here is a perfect example. Pookie is a puppy that is growing very rapidly and doesn’t quite know how to use his body yet. So going into one position from another, can be physically challenging in general, it is more challenging for a dog to go back up into a sitting position from a down position if they are rocked over on their side. That’s why there is a lack of response when he was rocked over on his side when he was laying down squarely on all four paws. His lack of response could have easily been misconstrued as stubbornness, but it was really him being unsure how to physically do it, even though he understood what I was asking.
