PAYesterday, nine families woke up to an ordinary day… and by evening, their lives were changed forever. A UPS plane went down in Louisville. Nine souls gone. Nine homes now carrying a weight that can’t be explained with words.
I remember that kind of news.
I remember the shock.
The silence.
The world that keeps spinning while yours comes to a stop.
If you are married… if you are dating… if you love someone… please hear me:
Hold them close tonight.
Say the words.
Do not assume “later.”
Later is not promised.
Grief has taught me that love isn’t something you store up.
It is something you pour out.

WHI was 26 weeks pregnant with my second son when my husband, Ryan, was stung by a bee on the way back from the gym. He had no history of a bee allergy and when he got home, he was fine. A few minutes later he told me he felt weird and I called 911.
I had to give my husband and father of my kids CPR on our front porch until the EMS arrived. Ryan's heart stopped for too long before they were able to revive him causing an anoxic brain injury. He was alive but in a vegetative state. We were told 5 months later by his brain rehab doctors he would never live a meaningful life and so he was put on hospice. I also had a baby 4 months prior to his death.
In the aftermath of loss I did fall in love again and I am remarried to an amazing man. It hasn't been easy figuring out what life looks like after unimaginable heartbreak and finding joy again when a part of you will always feel sorrow.
So yes, this story is both dramatic and traumatic (but hopefully inspiring) and many people have lots to things to say about it. But it is MY lived experience and I share it so people truly understand they are not alone after tragedy and that other people have been through similar circumstances. Most importantly I want people to know that no matter what happens to them in life, that a beautiful life is still worth fighting for.

MOGrowing old together is totally the dream, and letting go of this, I’m not sure how to even begin.
Loving is a risk, that’s absolutely true. But even with the cards falling as they did in our lives, I’d do it all again 100x over.
To walk side by side with someone is a true gift. To choose them every day is no easy path, and finding a person that chooses you back, now that is a whole nother helping of grace.
I lived most of my life pretty distracted and numb. Raff showed me love and joy I had never even imagined. Forever I am changed because of that woman, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her and the life we built, even if our time was cut short.
I learned the important piece of love is not the feeling, despite that being a very beautiful thing to experience. The most important part of love is the willingness and intention to action. Because there are plenty of days that aren’t storybook love scenes, but that doesn’t mean love doesn’t abound. I had to learn this.
Showing up for your person because that’s what you promised to do, in that rhythm you find an expanse of a whole new frontier of love. I found that with Raff, and that does not go away.
Losing her still doesn’t feel real most days, because our love is still here. I see her in our girls, in their intricacies, I talk to her about things. Our story lives on our voices in our book. The beauty that has come from hearing from all of you reading our book is immeasurable. Raffi’s Ripple continues and I am so honored to be a part of it.
