I’m a nutritionist and HABIT STACKING is one of the techniques I encourage people to try when they’re wanting to make changes to their health and ACTUALLY maintain them. You look at your current habits in place, then build the new habit on top of them. Think about these you can target across the day: 1. After I brush my teeth in the morning (habit), I’ll drink 2 glasses of water (new habit, stacked) Many people forget water and go straight for a caffeine hit in the morning. Up your hydration with this habit stacked onto your morning wake up routine. 2. After I eat my breakfast (habit), I’ll prep a nutritious lunch and pair it with a Remedy Shot (new habit, stacked) @remedydrinks Shots are made with functional ingredients to support health. They are the ONLY functional shot made WITHOUT sugar, and with a choice of ENERGY, DIGESTION, IMMUNE+ and SLEEP you can grab a shot to suit your needs at any time of day. Remedy Shots are delicious, convenient and a no brainer to pack in with lunch. (Ad) 3. After I have my lunch (habit), I’ll take a gentle walk around the block instead of slumping back down at my desk (new habit, stacked). This is a great way to increase your incidental exercise (NEAT) and gentle movement like a walk after a meal can help to improve insulin sensitivity and blood glucose levels too. 4. After I wrap up work for the day (habit) I’ll enjoy a refreshing Remedy Kombucha instead of a wine (habit stacked). Swap the booze in the fridge for your favourite @remedydrinks flavours and after work you can build the habit of booch over booze with ease. 5. After I finish dinner (habit), I’ll brew a herbal tea and wind down with a book (new habit, stacked). MINUTES. ⏳😅 But let’s be real—I’ve got a lot going on right now, and when life is busy, those “quick” tasks somehow feel impossible. If you’re in the same boat, here are a few tricks I’m trying to use to stop the madness: ✔ The 5-Minute Rule – If it takes less than 5 minutes, do it immediately. (I clearly ignored this one. 🙃) ✔ Set a Timer – Trick your brain by saying, “I’ll do this for just 10 minutes.” ⏰ You’ll probably finish it. ✔ Habit Stacking – Pair an annoying task with something you already do daily (like listening to music 🎶 while cleaning). Will I learn my lesson? TBD. I read Atomic Habits a few years ago and loved the idea of Habit Stacking.. (using a current habit to trigger a new habit you want to start) Whilst trying to get myself into some form of routine since giving birth, i've struggled to be consistent with anything. Mainly because the 'routine' doesn't exist. So I've altered the concept slightly to suit life right now and finding its working so well! I've based the new habits that I want to form, on my babies current habits, so that it feels more achievable. It's not a perfect system, but I've bought the Atomic Habits Workbook so that I can have a refresher and keep myself accountable.
