Does an advanced yoga pose equal an advanced yogi? Does the process of learning them humble you and remove ignorance (as original philosophy of yoga intends), or does the fact that you are learning the advanced poses and accomplishing them increase the dominance of ego of the practitioners (“spiritual ego”)? For most of my journey with yoga it was the physical asana that dominated my practice and I LOVED it. It was fun and exciting, helped me to overcome many obstacles in my mind, tested my patience, determination, humbled me, empowered me, taught me to live fearlessly. And at the same time the ability to “perform” such poses became my identity, and perhaps even a way of compensating something. My confidence came so often from the knowledge that I could do such things (as advanced poses). I would “hide behind the poses”, and struggled to stand in front of the camera without doing a yoga pose. And I mean, none of the above is bad. But is it really the point of yoga? Originally, yoga was a practice of transcending the limited ego identity and realizing one’s true nature, that atman is brahman, the individual soul and the divine intelligence are one. It was a practice or not being attached to worldly things including one’s own body and personality. And this made me slowly ask myself if my yoga practice was taking me closer or further away from the true goal of yoga. If I could not do those things, would I still feel confident? Would I feel whole without it? Would I feel confident as a yoga teacher? And the answer was no. I would struggle if my advanced asana practice was taken away from me. I still practice advanced asana. I love it. I hope to be able to practice physically until I am old and say goodbye to this life. But I want to practice it with the right attitude. I don’t want the practice of asana take me away from the practice of yoga. #ONANDOFFTHEMAT Does this resonate in some way? Did you also experience the same during your yoga journey?

you could go as far to say that when you’re not actually listening to the sensations in your yoga practice and what your nervous system is telling you’re not actually practicing yoga anymore so many of us race to reach certain physical goals when that was never the point of this mindfulness based practice chin stand has always been something i have known i have been capable of. when the conversation came up in the past i have had many people tell me the same - that they believe i am easily capable of it and proceed to try and guide me into the pose but it never felt quite right and hadn’t happened up until this class. i knew the moment would come but i had no interest in rushing it, i needed it to feel intentional and well prepared so i practiced patience luckily in this beautiful practice led by @danielrama_ there was many small building steps throughout the whole thing, working up to this moment here, where i actually found myself in chin stand. this time i felt safe in my mind and prepared in my body, the pose was super comfortable and i felt at ease in the position - enough even to play around with weight placement and really truly feel that my chin was not a supporting point of contact at any moment long story short, don’t rush into anything that doesn’t feel right, this applies to yoga but also all aspects of life i feel #practiceonandoffthemat #yoga #safe #listen

Here you go: 1️⃣ Isolate your strength training - do sets and repetitions of key movements such as pushups, L-sit lifts, and Lolasana lifts. 2️⃣Slow your flow - so many vinyasa classes move so quickly, you barely have time to focus on each pose and movement. Slow it down. Hold the damn poses. 3️⃣ Become obsessed with Handstands - handstands will train your full body strength. The are playful, fun and you won’t realize how that strength transfers. 4️⃣ Increase your flexibility - tightness means you are wasting your strength. It takes 10x more effort for a muscle-bound person to do strength based movements than someone with high flexibility. 5️⃣ Consistency - Rome wasn’t built in a day. You have to train regularly for at least 3-6 months to see noticeable improvements. Comment what you want to know next?
