I just keep getting better & I have less pain in my 40s than I did in my 30s. They also like to claim that my strength isn’t ’functional’… ok bro, keep doing your pirouettes with baby weights acting like it’s actually doing something. As for this video, Naudi is knocking squatting for jump height & he’s criticizing the worlds best high jumper saying that you can’t just copy what someone who gets results does & expect results ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME NAUDI? It’s all you f***ing do lol. You have no research to back up the claims about your training. All you do is rag on other people & post up testimonials of your clients. Literally what you are criticizing is the only type of marketing you do. Can’t make this shit up 🤣 As far as squats… sorry Naudi, several studies demonstrate they do improve jump height & increasing squat 1 rep max actually increases jump height & sprint times LOL (PMIDs: 22344055, 19826302, 38668555, 17545891 & 35627371) But you keep doing baby weight ballet & acting like it actually is magic. I’d love to take bets on who is going to be more ‘functional’ in 30 years between the two of us 🤣 #functionalpatterns

I remember when I used to do dead hangs to try to relieve the tension in my neck and lower back. Even back in high school, my friends would joke around and call me “no neck Pablo” because my chin was always tilted upward like a Cholo version of text neck. What was really happening was that I had a severely compressed cervical spine, and since the cervical and lumbar regions are so closely related or seem to counter one another when I move, my lower back was compressed too. When I’d hang from a bar, all I’d feel was a stretch in my shoulders that eventually turned into shoulder pain. The tension I was hoping to relieve in my neck and lower back never actually let go. The tight areas kept getting tighter, and the loose areas kept getting looser. It wasn’t until I started @functionalpatterns that I began to understand that bones don’t move themselves, muscles move bones. Muscular tension is what drives skeletal alignment and decompression. Think of it like a Chinese finger trap. When your fingers are close together, the fibers are slack. But when you pull your fingers apart, the fibers tighten and create tension. It seems to me that the body works in a similar way at times. True decompression happens when muscles above and below a joint coordinate tension together, not just pulling things apart, but creating integrated tension throughout the system. With dead hangs, you’re essentially pulling your joints apart without the muscular coordination needed to stabilize and decompress them. So while they might give temporary relief, they tend to make the tight structures tighter and the weak ones weaker, eventually leading to joint and ligament wear over time. If you want to actually decompress your spine, you need to train the body to generate upward lift through muscular engagement, to drive horizontal force vectors that convert into vertical lift. That’s what Functional Patterns does. It teaches you how to organize your body in a way that decompression becomes an outcome of movement, not just a passive stretch. As practitioners, most of us were in pain before starting Functional Patterns. Back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain and everything in between. Now we’re able to move athletically without the pain that comes along with traditional fitness methods. In addition, we knew that we would be doing clients a disservice if we continued coaching them on traditional methods that weren’t actually improving their movement and would eventually either contribute or put them in pain. Transverse movement is the hardest to coach, which is why you don’t see it in most traditional fitness. Great to see our jr trainers showing off their movement gains!

Strong in straight lines… fragile everywhere else. When I first started training with cross-patterns (aka contralateral rotation), I didn’t get it. There were too many moving parts. But once I was guided on timing and learned how muscles should work at the right angles, my weak links were exposed straight away. Since then, after thousands of hours training private clients, running group classes, and refining my own body, it’s become crystal clear how important these cross-patterns are for both rehab and performance. The beauty of this work is that sometimes you’re not far off, but your perception in space throws everything off. Once you nail the timing and execution, it applies EVERYWHERE: lifting, running, even the way you pick something up off the ground. It feels confusing at first because there are so many variables. But that’s exactly what makes it powerful... it takes you straight to your weaknesses so you can actually fix them. 👉 That’s why we train these cross-patterns as part of Functional Patterns, because whether you’re an athlete or just getting back into exercise, this is how you build a body that adapts for the long run. #functionalpatterns
