It acts like the brakes in a car, to where it slows down and/or stops brain activity on an as-needed basis to help us function better. When we are low in this neurotransmitter, our brain continues to hit the gas, overstimulating us with activity. Our gut microbiome plays an important role with GABA production and helps to convert glutamine and glutamic acid into GABA. A disordered microbiome is a major cause of low GABA production. GABA is synthesized from the amino acid glutamate with the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) and pyridoxal phosphate (which is the activated form of vitamin B6) as the key cofactor. Well, there are better ways to increase your energy and improve cognitive function. We can do this by supplementing to support your four major neurotransmitters: -Dopamine -Serotonin -Acetylcholine and -GABA Dopamine Along with the other excitatory neurotransmitters like epinephrine, norepinephrine, and glutamate, these regulate your brain’s energy and how fast it can handle information in the analogy like a car. Think about this as your engine. What is your horsepower? What is your 0 to 60 time? What is your max speed? These neurotransmitters can be supported by tyrosine, Phenylalanine, and L-dopa. Serotonin The happy hormone is going to give us an overall sense of well-being think of this being our car’s alignment and its transmission and how smoothly it moves through gears Serotonin can be supported by tryptophan, niacin, 5 HTP Acetylcholine My personal favorite is really important for focus and memory in our analogy, think about a driver who’s focused good concentration, and a good sense of direction via GPS.
