4 Acceleration Drills To Get Faster👇 Save For Next Session🔒 One of the easiest ways to improve your acceleration technique is with drills that set your body up in the correct positions to produce power in an efficient way. Here is are some great progressive accelerations to help you develop an explosive start & improve your running speed. If you are a sprinter or a run based athlete looking to get explosive & develop elite level acceleration then this is for you. 1️⃣ Swiss Ball Starts | 3 reps at 95-100% for 20-30m (2-3min rest in between) 2️⃣ Anchored Acceleration | 3 reps at 95-100% for 20-30m (2-3min rest in between) 3️⃣ Med Ball Push Starts | 3 reps at 95-100% for 20-30m (2-3min rest in between) 4️⃣ Falling Starts | 3 reps at 95-100% for 20-30m (2-3min rest in between) Note: you don’t have to do them all in one session and can spread them out or pair together. Perform all drills while maintaining correct acceleration posture, ground contact and technique. Try these drills in your next session. Follow for more ways to unlock your full running potential 😊

You don’t need a gym or equipment to perform effective plyometrics for speed training. I write workouts for my athletes to complete at the track or outside all of the time. I prefer to perform our plyometrics on these days, so we might do stadium stair jumps, bounds up the steps, multi-response broad jumps, or bounds for distance. For example, this week one of my athletes did some max v sprints, power skips for height, depth jumps and then some additional bodyweight resistance work. Another did accelerations (20s, 30s, 40s) and then bounds from a static start, multi response broad jumps, and additional resistance work. The reason I lean so heavily on some of these is because they somewhat mimic the relaxation-contraction pattern seen in sprinting - like speed bounds. We can still choose those activities with long coupling time (in place consecutive vertical jumps) or those with shorter coupling times (alternating bounds). We can pick a more horizontal oriented jump (broad jumps) or a more vertical one (power skips). Side note: those single leg jumps up stairs are NOT easy, nor something you should try without having the requisite abilities! @naomivdbroeck Is an unbelievable athlete!! Strides are short, controlled accelerations (about 15–30 seconds) where you gradually build up to about 85–95% of your maximum effort, then ease off. Here’s why they’re so valuable: 🔥 Improve Running Form: Strides force you to focus on good biomechanics—efficient arm swing, proper posture, and a smooth cadence. Practicing these small bursts of speed helps engrain proper form for when you’re running at slower or race paces. ⚡ Increase Turnover: They’re excellent for improving cadence (steps per minute), helping you develop a faster and more efficient stride. Over time, this reduces energy wastage and makes running feel easier. 💪 Build Strength & Power: Accelerating during strides helps build muscle strength and explosive power in your legs without over-fatiguing your body. This is especially helpful for hill running and finishing strong in races. ⏱ Great for Recovery & Warm-Ups: Strides are perfect at the end of an easy run to shake out stiffness or wake up your legs before a hard workout or race. They prime your muscles to handle faster speeds without feeling forced or overly strenuous. 🌟 Low-Impact Speed Work: Unlike a full-on interval session, strides don’t tax your body as heavily. You can add them 2–3 times a week, even during higher-mileage periods, without risking injury or burnout. 💡 How to Add Them: After your run, find a flat stretch (a quiet road or field works great). Do 4–6 strides of 15–30 seconds each, focusing on relaxed, controlled effort. Walk or jog back to reset between reps.
