No shade if you want to be a good tippy tapper👀 What Agility actually is: 👉 Making good decisions (quickly) 👉 Being able to change direction fast, after that decision is made. What agility isn’t: ❌How many times you can tap the floor over the space of about 5 metres😂 In other words, your centre of mass is barely moving… So, ladder & cone drills like this is doing nothing for your agility OR change of direction. We need 3 things: 1. Physical- Your strength, power & speed to be able to move your centre of mass efficiently. 2. Cognitive - Your ability to anticapate , scan, react to the environment & recognise. 3. Technical - your posture, lean, where you place your feet & how you adjust your steps. How this looks in practice? 1. Playing the sport is a good start. You will get tons of exposure & practice to having to make decisions quickly. 2. Improving your strength & power so you are making it easier to move your body. 3. Get faster - so you respond to decisions quicker + working on deceleration & acceleration so you change direction better. 4. Adding a reactive element to your training - Having someone else call a cone colour to run / change direction to, throw / drop a ball etc, to improve responding to the environment. These can be easily implemented (4) within traditional sprint, change of direction & technical skill work. Be honest, are you still doing these?👀
