Bulking vs. cutting—let me set this straight. The whole debate honestly gets on my nerves because people blow it out of proportion. When it comes to gaining phases, you don’t need an absurd 8,500 calories to build muscle. More muscle doesn’t require a huge surplus. Theoretically, you could gain muscle at maintenance, though in practice, it’s tricky. Still, a lean bulk with a small surplus—100 to 200 calories—is the way to go. Keep it slow and steady so you don’t end up with unnecessary fat. Aggressive bulking is outdated. On the flip side, cutting isn’t hard. A cut is simply a calorie deficit. You don’t have to suffer—just eat less and move more. Sure, contest prep with extreme cardio and low calories is tough. I’ve been there, did it in 2021, and yes, that’s brutal. But for a regular fat loss phase? It’s not rocket science—just discipline and consistency. At the end of the day, bodybuilding is a privilege. Enjoy the ride!

Guys, do this more than you do anything else if you want to be your most fit and healthy self. Yes, this comes from a self-defined meat head who spent over 20 years working in elite combat sports. I love hard training but the ROI is far from ideal. Now, I’ve never seen an elite athlete who couldn’t add Walk Training into their advanced programming and not get better. I’ve never seen the morbidly obese and metabolically disregulated population not dramatically improve their lives by adding I. Walk Training. In fact, I’ve never seen an IFBB professional bodybuilder lose muscle during contest prep when they added in Walk Training. Plus, the emotional and psychological benefits cannot be measured. Go for a walk! 🙏🏻

In 1998, he shocked the bodybuilding world by winning Mr. Olympia, defeating the reigning champion. What followed was dominance. Eight Mr. Olympia titles, tied for the most in history. It’s more common than “good morning”. “How do you feel. Are you excited?” I’m good. No. Not excited lol. Not grumpy. Not sad. Laser focused. Just being accurate and as the youngsters say, “transparent”. Lack of “excitement” is not a bad thing, it’s just something that reserved for other pursuits and experiences. At least for me. Does anyone else feel the same… or is everyone else skipping, laughing and bursting at the seems during contest prep… maybe it’s just me, THATS NOT. lol

Context here is important. It will be harder to build muscle during a deficit for some, and easier for others. If you’re newer to lifting, aren’t deep into prep, and are in a small deficit, it will be easier than for someone who has already been training 10+ years, is already very lean, is in a very steep deficit, or are deep into contest prep.
