If I learn something new to decolonize my language, I’m bringing it into my 6th grade global history classroom. I watched a video clip of Egyptian feminist, writer, and thinker Nawal El Saadawi, which pushed me to conduct more research and learn about why the Middle East was called the Middle East and just in time for my lesson on the geography of Arabia. This is revolutionary teaching! Being unafraid to teach students the truth. I’m planting seeds that I hope one day radicalizes my students to action and you should be too. The way I don’t even hear the sirens anymore is insane.
