Deloads work, you just need to know the rules. Rule 1: You need to load before you deload. If you are not lifting heavy enough or working hard enough, you have not earned the need for recovery. In the first 6 to 12 months of training, most lifters do not need a deload. Rule 2: The best deload strategy is not taking an entire week off. Save the full week off for when life forces it on you, such as illness, travel, or unexpected events. Rule 3: The most effective approach is to reduce volume, not intensity. Cut your sets in half while maintaining or even slightly increasing load. This method is backed by tapering research on powerlifters and ensures you recover without losing strength. The reason deloads get a bad name is that many people use them when they are not training hard enough to need one. That does not make deloads useless, it just means they are being applied incorrectly. At the highest level, every serious lifter uses some form of deload before competition, and then they go and set records. Check out this seven minute video where I provide an in-depth explanation of my deloading strategy and how to apply it to your own training. Save this post for reference. #deload

Deloads work, you’re just need to know the rules! First rule - you need to load before you deload. This means you need to be lifting weights heavy enough and working hard enough to deserve a deload. If you’re in your first 12 months of training, you probably don’t deserve one yet. Second rule - the best deload strategy isn’t an entire week off. Save the week off for when life forces it, such as sickness, family holiday, or something out of your control. Third rule - try my strategy, which is to reduce the volume by cutting your sets in half and maintaining or even slightly increasing load. Save this video and thank me later 👊 #deload

Should you do a deload? Yes. And here’s why. If you’re training hard enough, after 6–10 weeks (sometimes even sooner), recovery slows down and fatigue starts to pile up. And I’m not just talking about sore muscles. I’m talking about: • Your nervous system • Your connective tissues • Your mental fatigue Training hard all the time is not sustainable for anyone. Without proper recovery management, you’re not only stalling progress—you’re increasing your risk of injury. There’s no one-size-fits-all rule for deloads. Volume, intensity, and recovery need to be adjusted based on your body. Experience always beats ego. Train hard. Recover smarter.

Deload week doesn’t mean doing nothing… It means slowing things down, focusing on form, and letting your body recover while still moving with intention. Lighter weight More control Better connection It’s not flashy… but it’s necessary Be honest—do you actually deload… or skip it completely? 😅 #deload #deloadweek #strengthtraining

This was a deload week 👇 • lower mileage • lower intensity • same consistency Why deloads matter ⤵️ They let your body actually absorb the training. Muscles rebuild. Nervous system resets. Motivation comes back. Progress doesn’t come from forcing big weeks nonstop. It comes from knowing when to push and when to pull back so you can come back stronger. Zooming out. Trusting the process. WHAT IS A DELOAD WEEK Deload weeks are usually implemented every 8-12 weeks on average + are a period of training (usually a week in length) where you shift your focus towards recovery: rest, sleep, proper nutrition. During the week it is best to take active rest (either focusing on steps or training with reduced weight or intensity by 50-60%) 🫶 These weeks are important as they prevent overtraining, burnout, plateaus and allow your body/ mind to have that needed break so you can come back stronger + improve your performance !! Although it may seem counterproductive they have so many benefits especially when you are lacking motivation, have constant muscle soreness, poor recovery and problems sleeping… Ways you can implement a deload: ✨Decrease intensity: keep your reps/sets the same as usual but decrease the weight you are using by 50-60% ✨Decrease volume: keep your weight the same but rather than pushing till failure, decrease the amount of reps/ sets you are doing ✨Active rest: you can have this week off training and just focus on your daily step goal and some mobility/ stretching Hope this helps + feel free to message me if you have anymore questions 🥰 #deload #deloadweek #listentoyourbody #fitnessjourney #fitnessmotivation #gymadvice #fitnesstips #rest #recovery
