Contrary to popular belief, you need to do more than stretch to get flexiblility that you can control in movement. You need to train passive stretching, dynamic exercises, & active strengthening of the range of motion! Are you guilty of scrolling for minutes while in your pancake? 🙋‍♀️ I’m unfortunately here to say that your stretching may not be as effective if your head isn’t in the game too 😜 It’s all in the engagement, baby. Take notice of my feet in the first stretch — while I’m able to get belly to floor my legs are nearly relaxed. Therefore, this passive stretch can only get me so far in my flexibility journey. However, in the second clip I am engaging my quads and glutes to pull/rotate my legs up and back and away from the floor to create a more active stretch. Learning what muscles to engage in specific stretches can help to make flexibility training more intentional and concise (re: no more sitting in pancake for five minutes scrolling IG or TT!).
