In this short video, I show you a simple sequence of movements that gently takes your lower back through flexion, extension, and rotation — helping to reduce stiffness and improve mobility fast. Your back pain isn’t from ‘bad posture.’ We’ve heard this all our lives. “Stand up straight.” “Your pelvis is tilted.” “You’ve got an anterior pelvic tilt.” “Your X-ray curve looks bad.” The fear that many of my patients admit to us is… “What if I end up hunched and looking old before my time?” Here’s the truth: Most people are way too worried about static posture… And not worried enough about how much, and how well, they move. If you’re stuck in one position? That is a problem, and you need to restore that movement. But there’s no one perfect posture that fixes back pain. No magical neutral spine that saves you. Thankfully your spine was built to move! Bending, twisting, and under load. Movement variability > posture perfection. Your Lower Back Pain Starts In Your Chest. Here's Proof. 60 Seconds. This isn't about your lower back. This isn't about your core. This isn't about your posture. Your thoracic spine handles 80% of all trunk rotation. Your lower back? 2 to 3 degrees per segment. It was never designed to rotate. But years of phone. Computer. Driving. Your chest closed. Fascia between your shoulder blades dried out and stuck. Thoracic spine locked down. Your lower back had to pick up the slack. Rotating through ranges it was never built for. Day after day. Year after year. That's not a bad back. That's a back doing someone else's job. A meta-analysis of 31 studies confirmed it. Free the thoracic spine, lower back pain drops. Disability drops. MRI studies showed it directly. Mobilise the chest, lumbar rotation decreases. The compensation stops. It goes deeper. Locked chest compresses your diaphragm. Breathing gets shallow. Nervous system reads that as danger. More tension. More pain. All from a chest that stopped moving. WHICH MEANS your lower back was never the problem. I see a lot of people make and then the experience is simply painful and not that helpful. For lower back pain, check your TFL muscle as it's a commonly dysfunctional muscle. Find the most sensitive area in the muscle, place enough pressure on it that it's tender but not painful, and hold that pressure for between 20-60 seconds until that sensation diminishes by about 50%. Instead of avoiding activity, follow these 4 steps: 1️⃣ Reduce Disc Pressure Start with elbow props → progress to press-ups to unload a disc bulge or disc herniation. 2️⃣ Rebuild Core Stability Brace on your back and slowly lower one heel to decompress the spine and rebuild deep core support. 3️⃣ Retrain Pain-Free Bending Use a broomstick hip hinge drill to relearn safe bending mechanics. 4️⃣ Build Real-World Strength Loaded carries while bracing = functional strength that protects your lower back.
