Single Leg Hamstring Floss 🤺 WHY ➩ Very simple exercise to lengthen our hamstrings, great for pre training! HOW ➩ We want to have our bum as close to the rig as possible while keeping our lower back pressed into the floor, both our working and non working leg straight, with our toes pointed back and staying straight. The further away our bum is to the rig the easier this movement is and the closer our bum is to the rig, the harder it is! Making sure BOTH our legs stay straight with our toes pointed back towards us and straight is the key to this exercise. Here we have 3 different variations you can do to help release tension that so many people have around there sciatic nerve. Variation 1: Point your toe as you straighten your knee to then flexing the toes as you bend your knee Variation 2: Keep your foot flexed the whole time while alternating between bent and straight knee Variation 3: Pump the ankle joint back and forth to add on and off tension around the ankle Spend a few minutes together going through these quick movements. “My hamstrings are soOooOoOoOoOoO tight” says every person ever Kidding. (Kind of) Two things I typically find in those that make this comment: 1. They’re indeed tight, but typically because they simply never train them through range (what you don’t use, you lose). 2. They “feel” tight, but they’re not. (Very) generically speaking, this may imply weakness and so creates a sensation of “tightness” to create stability (to compensate for lack of strength). Perks of this drill- it addresses both (to a degree). Main cues to follow: ▫️Keep pelvis still- you’ll know you’re pushing too far into end range if you feel your pelvis tilt and/or lift. Only go as far as your hamstring allows. ▫️CONTROL- slow, controlled movement by the proximal hamstring. ▫️As you hold end range, isometrically press against the band. Start with a LIGHT band. Here's a very simple hamstring floss that can teach you how to actively lengthen your hamstrings using a heel push cue. 1. Place your heel on an elevated surface and lean your body forward over the leg to keep a constant forward folding bias. You should already feel some stretch sensation in the hamstrings. Keep this hinge angle during the entire exercise. 2. Bend the knee until you reach a lunge-like position to move the stretch into your upper hamstrings (near the center thigh or glute) 3. Use your heel to push your body away and stretch into the lower hamstrings by the knee. 4. Repeat 10-15 reps on each side 1-2x as a movement snack. 🧠✨ Mid-intensity, repetitive motions are a great way to implement active dynamic stretching when you're dealing with stubborn structural or protective tension. #hamstringstretch #hipmobility #fascialstretch #painrelief #prehabnotrehab
